Subject: How do you add a synth to Sounddivers install list
Message #17651
I have just got a Korg Ex8000 & havn't used sounddiver before. There is a file (DW-8000, EX-8000.ADA) which downloaded with sounddiver in ~/Library/Application Support/Emagic/SoundDiver Adaptations. If I double click it it says to run scan or add manually. But you can only scan or add models that are already in the install list. If I run 'scan all' it recognises the korg as something else. How can I add the DW-8000, EX-8000.ADA file to the install list ?

Hi, Just put the .ADA file into the Diver folder, and you'll find the adaptation in the Install window. if you've made the adaption it should work, it's a fairly complex thing to create a new adaption, you might take a existing 303 adaption and edit this to meet the midi implementation of your box. if you've created the adaptation and have it in the correct folder it should show up on your install list. There is a pdf document explaining how to create adaptations... should be in an archive somewhere... if none of this makes any sense then all i can say is good luck;) tkm

Don't double click. Select the adaptation and click "add". Subject: [SoundDiver] Issues with SoundDiver Communications
Message #17660
I'm was trying out SoundDiver 3.1pb2 under OS X 10.4.7 with a MOTU MIDI Express XT interface. SoundDiver was never able to see/communicate with my Casio VZ-8M, and all the patches that were sent to my Yamaha TX81Z were corrupted by the time they got to the synth. Is there an issue between it and the MOTU interface? Does anyone else have any ideas on what the issue could be? Thanks in advance. Ivan

In the case of the TX81z this is most probably due to the checksum bug in the public beta. All the adaptations that use checksums in the Sysex strings don't work anymore. Modules still work AFAIK. Unfortunately Apple never fixed this :-( Ingo

Subject: [SoundDiver] New to SD
Message #17662
I'm a newbie. I recently downloaded SD OSX edition, but it does not seem to come with any sort of manual. Thus apart from just bumbling around sending messages to and from my machines randomly, I don't really know what I'm doing. I'm scared that I'm going to accidentally overwrite my Oberheim Xpander patches, and I don't know if or how the sounddiver incorporates itself into Logic Pro 7. Any advice would be much appreciated, or a nudge in the direction of a sounddiver manual would be great. really, i want to be able to automate my Xpander from Logic so that I have more than just 2 continuous controllers to choose from. Thanks, brett

Hi, Recently I got YAMAHA EX5. Does anyone still use SoundDiver for this machine? I still can't apply velocity to filter cutoff. Many things are going against my expectation - sound changes once stored in the RAM, etc. Please tell me how to use SD with EX. I'm using SD 3.0.5.1. Thanks in advance. I'm using SD 3.0.5.1. You need to be aware of a problem with the EX5 (& EX5R): (with acknowledgement to ex.factory manual) When you request a dump of a Voice from either the Edit Buffer or from a Memory Location via MIDI, there is a problem when the Voice being requested has an Element active in Element slot four. Voices that do not have Element 4 active (i.e. they can have any of the other Elements active) are fine. The symptoms of this problem are that the end of the SYSEX message is corrupted, which manifests itself as corruption in the Static Control Filter settings for Element 4 and corruption of the Element Insert Effect Switches (all Elements). This failing in the EX5 MIDI implementation can cause your sounds to be different after taking them over to SoundDiver. I'd suggest you visit a very useful website: http://www.ex5tech.com/ and their forums: http://www.ex5tech.com/ex5ubb_cgi/ultimatebb.cgi For a start, they have a HUGE download section of great sounds. The forums are small but active and you can usually get help from guys that really know their stuff. I have an EX5R which I used to edit with SoundDiver but don't use either all that much anymore. Your velocity question will be answered at ex5tech, I'm sure. Regards - Colin

Thanks, Colin, as always, keeping this SD community alive. I'll try the EX form, and I'll try ex.factory. I rarely use all 4 elements, so the problem can be avoided by using EX as 3-OSC synth. Subject: [SoundDiver] SD-for-PC manual & download
Message #17671
I posted this question when I signed up here (maybe a month ago?), but I got no replies and can't find the post (a search under author "danwader" shows none), so I apologize if I am, somehow, repeating myself. Anyway: Does anyone know where I can get the manual (= full help files?) for the full PC version of SD? Even better: where I can get the full SD- for-PC program (I know it was discontinued, but if I had to buy it for a reasonable price, that would be OK)? Explanation: I have an Alesis DM PRO that came with a limited-to-DM-PRO version of SD and even more limited help files. I bought MIDI Quest XL and after days of attempted use of that program, much communication with that company, and coming close to rendering the DM PRO a paperweight, I finally realized that MIDI Quest is not really a working program. My limited SD works, so I would like more of it, since there seems to be no viable alternative. Thank you.
