You already have the 3.0 install CD, right? The links to the updaters are on my site. I don't think the Logic versions from v7 on still support Autolink, so Logic 5 or 6 is it then. Subject: How do I retain ROM patch names in the Matrix-1000 adaptation?
Message #17627
Hi, I was hoping you guys could point me in the right direction on this one. When I install the Matrix-1000 adaptation into SoundDiver3 (PC version) it has the ROM section populated with the default patch names which are very descriptive and I find them to be quite helpful while browsing sounds. The problem is, every time I wish to edit one of these patches for the first time, SoundDiver requests the patch settings from the Matrix and the patch name is automatically overwritten with something like "BNK3: 57" depending on the bank and patch#. This generic patch name is not only copied to the temporary edit buffer, but it overwrites the default patch name in the ROM section as well. Also, manual attempts to change the name back are unsuccessful due to the fact it's in the ROM section. Is there any way I can configure SoundDiver to retain the default patch names in the ROM section of the Matrix-1000 adaptation? Thanks for your help! :-) - Brian

Fantastic, thanks for the great info. I'll be buying a dual 1.25ghz G4 that boots OS9 tomorrow from a local craigslister; I'm really excited about it! :) I've been reading a lot on the archive and theres one thing I'm still not clear on. I'm confused about the difference between "Apple Logic Pro 6" and "Emagic Logic 6 Platinum" and which one I should get in order to support Autolink w/ SoundDiver... Do both of these versions support Autolink or just the earlier Emagic version? From what I've read, It seems that the latest version of Apple Logic Pro 6 is v6.4.3, and the latest version of Emagic Logic 6 Platinum is v6.3? Is this correct? Which of these supports SoundDiver autolink, if not both? This should be the final piece of the puzzle for me, and again thanks so much for your feedback. Regards, Brian

Thanks for your help! :-) actually, I'm not familiar with SoundDiver, but this behaviour is due to a flaw in the Matrix 1000 firmware. When requesting a patch, it really tells those silly patch names. Rumour hast it that there was not enough ROM space to include the names, so they are synthesized. Apparently, SoundDiver assumes that a name reported from the specific device won't be any worse than what it already has in the bank list. Well, in this case it IS worse. Sorry, don't know if it can be corrected within SoundDiver. Christian

Thanks for your help! :-) > > - Brian > I think this is a feature not a fault. The Matrix 1000 has nowhere to keep the name information field, The 6R has waht you want. What I do is to own a Matrix 6 too, and as this implementation of the design has a space for the names in its architecture, the names are preserved while connected to the sounddiver. Then I copy and paste the names to a spreadsheet ( quite time consuming and tedious ) and then print the list, keeping it in a folder with the instrument. The bank that gets transferred to the 1000 loses its names while in there, but they can't be displayed anyway, so who cares Each of these banks gets a name and then the instrument gets a Brady sticker reminding the bewildered user what the heck they did last timer they re-organised the bank. Once you have the empty spreadsheet with its numbering scheme organised to cover your range of instruments, the housekeeping isn't that bad. Easier than tidying your room I find. I came to the Matrix and Sounddiver combination after dealing with the OB8 and Voyetra. You can name patches in Voyetra Librarian but the OB8 has nowhere to keep them and no display either, apart from the airfield landing lights. Nobody was about to design a system for this, so after trying to use the scribble sheets Oberheim provided, I made a version in a spreadsheet, Lotus 123 on a 286 laptop. This was 1988 after al. Not anyone's idea of fun, but if a job's too dull to interest your nerdy friends, and you're too cheap to pay to have it done.....? Despite working in the studio business alongside many of the major names of the 80's and 90s, I didn't see anybody else doing any of this kind of thing, they all seem to just concoct something for the moment, and then move on to something new. The big names I see now aren't that different. In fact the younger ones just want something different more often. In retrospect, the names are less important than having them where you can find them in the heat of the moment.

Hi. You have a Triton Rack environment that's working in OSX? Cool. If you can share it, that would be SO freakin' cool. Please let me know! Thanks! fm

Subject: [SoundDiver] Sounddiver chrashes ;-( - any ideas please
Message #17633
hi, i got sounddiver beta2 running on my mac mini PPC (G4) with mac os x 10.4.9 and everything works fine till 1 week ago. i got an AMT8 and on the port 7 (in + Out) there is another patchbay (akai me80p). on the me80p are hanging my oberheim matrix 1000, waldorf pulse and a roland td-7. in the last time, sounddiver chrashes when i request der memorys from the matrix or the pulse, but the td-7 always works, so i don`t think that this is a problem with the akai patchbay. i also checked and changed all midicables and reprogrammed the akai patchbay from scratch. in logic everything works fine, even sysex stuff, so all connections seams to be allright. i totally kicked sounddiver from my harddisk, download sounddiver again from the apple website, reinstalled sounddiver and make all prferences from scratch (scanned my external hardware with sounddiver). a least i kicked os x from my hd and reinstalled everything new (now i got mac os x 10.4.8 again) = same problems ;-( perhaps anyone of you hav an idea, especially to this chrash report: Host Name: my-mac-mini Date/Time: 2007-03-20 10:31:18.855 +0100 OS Version: 10.4.9 (Build 8P135) Report Version: 4 Command: SoundDiver Path: /Applications/SoundDiver 3.1.0 Public Beta 2.app/Contents/MacOS/SoundDiver Parent: WindowServer [81] Version: SoundDiver version 3.1.0 (3.1.0) PID: 550 Thread: 0 Exception: EXC_BAD_ACCESS (0x0001) Codes: KERN_INVALID_ADDRESS (0x0001) at 0x0526ca70 Thread 0 Crashed: 0 info.emagic.Uni 0x05225ca0 0x5204000 + 138400 1 info.emagic.Uni 0x05227ae8 0x5204000 + 146152 2 info.emagic.Uni 0x05227df4 0x5204000 + 146932 3 info.emagic.SoundDiver 0x0009da90 0x1000 + 641680 4 info.emagic.SoundDiver 0x0009dd84 0x1000 + 642436 5 info.emagic.SoundDiver 0x0009ef24 0x1000 + 646948 6 info.emagic.SoundDiver 0x0007ddd0 0x1000 + 511440 7 info.emagic.SoundDiver 0x000312f8 0x1000 + 197368 8 info.emagic.SoundDiver 0x00031160 0x1000 + 196960 9 info.emagic.SoundDiver 0x0007e694 0x1000 + 513684 10 info.emagic.SoundDiver 0x000a31d0 0x1000 + 664016 11 info.emagic.SoundDiver 0x00003ac4 0x1000 + 10948 12 info.emagic.SoundDiver 0x000038f4 0x1000 + 10484 Thread 1: 0 libSystem.B.dylib 0x9000b4c8 mach_msg_trap + 8 1 libSystem.B.dylib 0x9000b41c mach_msg + 60 2 com.unsanity.ape 0xc0001b14 __ape_agent + 296 3 libSystem.B.dylib 0x9002be88 _pthread_body + 96 Thread 2: 0 libSystem.B.dylib 0x9000b4c8 mach_msg_trap + 8 1 libSystem.B.dylib 0x9000b41c mach_msg + 60 2 com.apple.CoreFoundation 0x907deba8 __CFRunLoopRun + 832 3 com.apple.CoreFoundation 0x907de4ac CFRunLoopRunSpecific + 268 4 com.apple.CoreFoundation 0x907ed90c CFRunLoopRun + 52 5 info.emagic.SoundDiver 0x000c1d04 0x1000 + 789764 6 libSystem.B.dylib 0x9002be88 _pthread_body + 96 Thread 3: 0 libSystem.B.dylib 0x9000b4c8 mach_msg_trap + 8 1 libSystem.B.dylib 0x9000b41c mach_msg + 60 2 com.apple.audio.midi.CoreMIDI 0x96b7bac8 XServerMachPort::ReceiveMessage(int&, void*, int&) + 84 3 com.apple.audio.midi.CoreMIDI 0x96b6ec80 MIDIInPortThread::Run() + 64 4 com.apple.audio.midi.CoreMIDI 0x96b72f44 XThread::RunHelper(void*) + 28 5 com.apple.audio.midi.CoreMIDI 0x96b7c87c CAPThread::Entry(CAPThread*) + 96 6 libSystem.B.dylib 0x9002be88 _pthread_body + 96 Thread 4: 0 libSystem.B.dylib 0x90055468 semaphore_timedwait_signal_trap + 8 1 libSystem.B.dylib 0x90071be8 pthread_cond_timedwait_relative_np + 556 2 ...ple.CoreServices.CarbonCore 0x90bf948c TSWaitOnSemaphoreCommon + 176 3 ...ple.CoreServices.CarbonCore 0x90c01428 TimerThread + 60 4 libSystem.B.dylib 0x9002be88 _pthread_body + 96 Thread 0 crashed with PPC Thread State 64: srr0: 0x0000000005225ca0 srr1: 0x000000000200f030 vrsave: 0x0000000000000000 cr: 0x84800222 xer: 0x0000000000000004 lr: 0x0000000005226168 ctr: 0x0000000005225c8c r0: 0x0000000000030000 r1: 0x00000000bffff000 r2: 0x000000000523ca70 r3: 0x00000000001187d4 r4: 0x000000000523589c r5: 0x00000000bfffec00 r6: 0x00000000000003e8 r7: 0x0000000000000000 r8: 0x00000000000001f2 r9: 0x0000000000476f10 r10: 0x00000000ffffffff r11: 0x0000000000411440 r12: 0x000000000009fa64 r13: 0x0000000000000000 r14: 0x000000000522589c r15: 0x0000000004e2e130 r16: 0x0000000000000016 r17: 0x00000000bffff048 r18: 0x00000000bffff048 r19: 0x0000000000000045 r20: 0x000000000000004f r21: 0x0000000000000000 r22: 0x00000000004a9630 r23: 0x0000000000000016 r24: 0x0000000004e2e10c r25: 0x0000000000000000 r26: 0x0000000000000000 r27: 0x0000000000000064 r28: 0x00000000ffffffff r29: 0x000000000043bc40 r30: 0x000000000523c720 r31: 0x000000000523c720 Binary Images Description: 0x1000 - Subject: [SoundDiver] SoundDiver 3.0.52 for Windows in Parallels?
Message #17635
I just switched from a PC running WinXP to a Mac Pro 2.66 and haven't been able to get the SD OSX beta to work without it locking up everytime I try to send or receive data, so I've been wondering if anyone has had luck using the Windows version via Parallels on the Mac? SD worked fine for me on Windows -- for the most part, aside from the annoyance of certain editors not having been made for some components of my synths -- but will it work for me via Parallels? The biggest question I have is, will it share my MOTU MIDI Express 128 USB interface? I don't need AutoLink (even if it was available for Logic 7.2), I just need to be able to send and receive patch data and maybe do a little editing. Any insights? -N --- Neil Marsh neil@audioboy.net

Just download STeem ST emulator and it will work very well for you, too. Personally I keep an old Atari STe around, but the atari software runs much faster on a modern PC under emulation.

The problem with the XSkey is that after having upgraded to a certain version of OS10 hte XSkey was not found anymore by Logic Audio (Emagic). Moreover, as midi did not work anymore when using Classic, I changed to Logic Express. So, who could help me and tell me where I can find the XSkey driver for OS10.4.9? Another thing: I did not by sounddiver at the time when Apple bought Emagic. I was just a few weeks too late. So: can I use the public beta anyhow or should I forget using SoundDiver alltogether? I got the XS with Logic Audio 5.0. That's from before Apple took over Emagic. So, the XS key has the code of Logic Audio 5.0. The installation CDroms don't work on OSX, so I can't install them. Sounds like a vicious circle.

Have you got the correct version of the public beta? Its file name is SoundDiver 3.1.0 Public Beta 2. There was a time-limited earlier version that does not run anymore. Ingo

I do own Logic Audio 5.3 and do have a dongle. I did not buy SoundDiver at the time, was hesitating to do so. Before I got to buying it, Apple took over Emagic. So I'm desperately trying to get the Beta of SoundDiver working, as there is no alternative (buying a working version, and Apple is not planning to develop any midi librarian/editor)
