Yet another SD OSX searching everywhere for it. I'm currently assessing whether or not it's worth my time to try to create an editor for the Roland V-Bass. Any helpful information gratefully received (including "it can't be done" :D) It can't be done. VG-88 and V-Bass have totally brain-dead MIDI implementations. Which is somewhat strange because the VG-8 was comparatively good in this area. -- Malte Rogacki gacki@gacki.sax.de ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- "Don't forget to TURN ON THE SYNTHESIZER. This inability must be inherent to the structure of SoundDiver then, as a well-developed onscreen editor/librarian for the VG-88 exists already, developed by a third party. It's at groups.yahoo.com/group/VEditor/. Apparently it works great. Still and all, for future reference and other modules, do you or anyone else have an idea where I could find that Programming Guide? Thanks!

Subject: [SoundDiver] "key" errors on import of MID Sysex file
Message #17606
Hello all! I am evaluating a TG-77 library of patches selling on EBay. I received a free file from its author. I imported the MIDI Sysex file and ran across a series of "key" errors on the multi patches. The voice patches imported without a problem. What can be causing this to happen? The author of the sound collection imported his whole library into SoundDiver without this problem. Thanks! Bob Graham

Go to http://Synth.Stromeko.net/Downloads.html.The adaptation works really well, although you have to send a bulk dump after editing.

Subject: [SoundDiver] Sound Diver, Mac Tiger, Unitor8, and Logic Audio combo.
Message #17615
Just because it's topical... I've been through the ringer with Sound Diver. I was a HUGE fan of the original release of SD and associated hardware. Currently, I have four Unitor8's, stacked. I control a myriad of MIDI gear with them... including several outboard synths, guitar pedals, effects boxes and Radar24. ONE MONTH after I purchased a Logic Control MIDI surface, eMagic closed their doors. To say I was angry is an understatement. I'm thankful they came out with one final public beta for SoundDiver to make it compatible with OS/X though. I've used SoundDiver for years, along with Logic. My original platform was PC, but I moved it all (finally) to a Mac G5 a few years ago. I currently use SoundDiver to manage my Unitor8's, but rarely use it to edit synth patches because the communication is way too unstable. Instead, I usually edit on the synths themselves, then upload the data to SoundDiver. Using SoundDiver with live synth improvisation is just plain frustrating... it locks up over and over and over... I would LOVE to move to MidiQuest (or any other competative synth librarian / editor), but Unitor8's are a bit proprietary, and as far as I know, no other software is available that can program them... and I have little faith it could communicate as well with Logic. Let me know if there are any, please! Yes, SD is a bit unstable. It crashes when I attempt to do ANY realtime work with my Novation Supernova II, and it doesn't like my Roland V-synth at all, despite my home-made adaptation for it. Part of the reason (I believe) is long cable lengths between my Unitor8's (they aren't LITERALLY stacked, in fact they are spread out through the studio). To further complicate things, I have a friend (a drummer) that uses his OWN computer setup, which we integrate into mine for live studio sessions. He, too, uses Logic... version 5.1 on the PC, and has his own Unitor8. Synchronizing everything is at best tricky, and sometime nightmarish. There are a few situations where it's just plain impossible to do something (like trying to use MMC to control the Radar from his computer, for example). There may be a better solution than my Unitor8 / SoundDiver / Logic setup, but I have yet to see it. The best routers I've seen can only be stacked 3 deep, instead of 4... and they certainly don't have SoundDiver's compatibility with Logic Audio, nor decent MTC handling. However, I'm open to ANY suggestions! smile.gif At some point, the Unitor8's will just not be a viable option for me anymore... I'm already pushing the edge of what MIDI routers can do. The MIDI standard itself is slow and antiquated... ...but, doing all the kind of work I need to do virtually on computer isn't an option either... computers are still unsatisfactory in the latency department when it comes to recording multiple live MIDI and audio tracks. In any event, if I didn't have so much invested in this setup, I'd sell the whole shebang and get the latest TDM-powered ProTools. Ah well... it works well enough, I guess. Regrardless, I just wanted to say THANKS to the SD forum here... over the years you guys have been invaluable in troubleshooting what could have been a 5-star piece of software if eMagic hadn't of given up on it.

Subject: Studio Quad 4 adaptation
Message #17619
I am writing an adaptation for the Digitech Quad 4 and have come accross an annoying problem. The dumped program data from factory and user effects programs seems to have different length 'headers' that contain the effect name, depending on the program selected. The consequence of this is that the effect names are not displayed correctly in the memory manager. Each name seems to be flanked by a '?' character, so is there a way of displaying the names correctly based on this? Is there a way of only displaying the characters between the '?'s? Is there a way of correctly calculating the variable offset to the effect name? (I think this is based on the combination of fx processors used for the effect, this info is in the header too im sure). Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Subject: [SoundDiver] Importing sound patches
Message #17620
Hello all! I have a couple problems importing sound patches for my K2000R using version 3 of SD. When I import a KRZ file into a library, SD immediately aborts. Also, when I move sound patches by copy and paste between the device window and the library window, sometimes all the imported patches show up as library title lines with the name of each patch instead of the patches themselves. Any thoughts? Bob Graham

(sigh) So much to do, so much to know. Thanks. So are there any problems with it? Two things to take care of: The DP/4 needs both MIDI connections, Out to In and In to Out, because of the handshake protocol. If you have edited a parameter that keeps the DP/4 busy for a few seconds (like config or algorithm select), watch the display and wait until it has come to rest before editing another parameter. Subject: What versions of SoundDiver & Logic currently work best together via Autolink on Mac OSX or OS9?
Message #17624
Hi, I need some good advice here. I've been struggling with Logic and Sounddiver on my PC for too long and am ready to upgrade to a Mac G4 or G5, although Im leaning towards a used G4 to save some cash. I will soon be buying a Mac and wish to use Logic and Sounddiver together via Autolink if possible. So what are your opinions on which versions of these programs work best together? I would use Logic 6 if I had to, I just need something stable that can tie my hardware synths and software sequencer together neatly, thanks!

Hi Brian, Be warned: Since OSX on Mac, Logic and SD don't work together with Autolink anymore. SD is not supported by Apple and all you have is a public Beta version which has known bugs that may never be fixed. I don't know if you'll be able to buy a v6 of Logic - only v7 is sold currently. On the positive side: Logic 7.x is a great app and you'll find that Logic has moved far ahead since v5.5 for PC The SD beta does work - you just need to be aware of the problems. Regards - Colin
