Hello, and thanks for the reply! I do indeed find that the OMS 2.3.8
installer has put a file
titled "USB OMSMIDIDriver" in the OS9 System/Extensions folder,
and one called "OMS USB
Manager" in the OS9 System/OMS Folder. So that appears not to be the
problem.
Recently I tried to do some more troubleshooting.
First, to recap, I should say that my problem is that, when I am running my
PowerBook G4
in Classic mode, neither SoundDiver nor OMS (nor, I find, MotU's FreeMIDI)
seems to be
able to see the USB port. In SoundDiver, the USB port is shown as
"n/a" in the
Communications Preferences. In OMS, only the "printer" and
"modem" ports are shown in
the dialogue boxes that allow one to choose an input/output port. FreeMIDI
1.48 doesn't
see the USB port either.
Here are some steps that I've tried without resolving the issue:
-- I updated my SD version 3.0 to 3.0.52
-- I created a new configuration in the OS X Audio MIDI Setup that excludes
my USB MIDI
interface. The new configuration still includes an audio & MIDI
interface that connects via
Firewire, but I'm assuming that a Firewire interface configured in OS X
shouldn't interfere
with USB communications in OS 9. (?)
-- Previously, I'd had FreeMIDI 1.48 installed in OS 9 and had been trying
to run FreeMIDI
and OMS 2.3.8 at the same time. When I realized this, I used the OS 9
Extensions Manager
to deactivate FreeMIDI, restarted, and tried OMS again without success.
-- I've tried disabling USB-related system extensions in OS 9 -- at least
the ones that
seem to be non-essential to the system and to my purposes -- in hopes of
eliminating a
conflict there.
At base, it seems that something is occupying or blocking the USB port/bus
so that my
MIDI programs can't see it. Do I have to disable all USB software in OS X
-- for example,
USB printer drivers, etc. -- in order to allow OS 9 to have access to the
USB port?
I have MotU AudioDesk and Clockworks installed in the OS X (10.3.9) area of
my computer.
I do not try to run them while trying to run SD in OS 9. But do they have
drivers or
extensions running that are causing my problems?
If anyone has ever seen that "USB port: n/a" message in the
SoundDiver Communications
Prefs window, please let me know how you overcame it.
Many thanks!
cheers, Eric

Hi Felix,
when I tried to make an adaptation for the Technics WSA-1, I failed
because of exactly the same problem. It really seems like the OS-X
beta-version of SD isn´t able to send out checksums.............at
least no 2´s complements.....
Are those adaptations you mentioned based on the Uni-Module? Maybe it
´s only the Uni-Module that can´t handle checksums...???

Hi Miro,
In my setup, all the adaptations of the uni-module that use checksum are
failing to send the checksum byte:
03D (using 2's complement) and the Martix-1000 (using LH Nibbles ->7bit)
The native modules (in my case only the Microwave XT) and the adaptations
that dont use checksum are working fine.
So, yes, my conclusion is that universal module cant send checksum...
But maybe some people here have had success with uni-module and checksum?
Anyone?
Maybe this is just happenning in our systems?
Anyways, my system is:
G5 dual 2ghz, 1,5 meg ram, osx.4.6, 2 x emagic amt8, with the latest version
of sounddiver

Felix
Hi Eric!
I'm not familiar with the MotU USB MIDI Interfaces. But with my Unitor8 MkII
I need to install a
special Unitor8 USB driver for MacOS9 in the system extension folder and a
Unitor8 OMS
driver in the system/OMS folder to get the interface recogniced.
When there is no special OMS driver available for your interface you need
the "Standard
Interface OMS driver" in your system/OMS folder.
Make sure other USB drivers and system extensions in MacOS9 like "HID
Library",
"InputSprocket Classic", "InputSprocket Extension" and
"USB Device Extension" are enabled.
When I did my new set-up in MacOS9 the USB port wasn't shown - only the
printer and
modem port. When I let OMS search for new devices it found my Unitor8
flawlessly on the
USB port.
Make sure you've got the preference pane "OMS preferred device"
enabled. Chose your MotU
interface there.
Open for a change your system profiler in MacOS9 - does it show other USB
devices you've
got connected. When not - we need a deeper look into your system
extension...

Hi,
Close to throwing 1010 out window, need help!
I want to programme my user performances on my 1010 so that I can set sounds
for gigs i.e. Perf 001 to have piano on channel 1 and organ on channel 2.
If I send this info to the 1010 using Sound Diver it works BUT as soon as I
change to another performance and go back again, or if I turn off the 1010,
the settings are lost...Roland tech support can't seem to help...
Anyone know what I'm doing wrong...it's driving me crazy.
Thanks,
Robin
Hello
so i have a casio cz-1 and a yamaha tx81z synth MODULE and i wanna be able
to program the module with soundiver but at the same time be able to preview
the sounds im making by playin them on the cz-1's keyboard. I realize there
should be a way of connecting it so it works but so far no matter how i
connect it sounddiver cant find either the yamaha or the casio. I hope this
is somewhat clear and some one can help me...pleaaaseeee :)
...and bizarrely it works perfectly well with my 1080, and I know it's not
my 1010 because I've got two side by side and the same thing happens on
both....I bought the 1010s so I wouldn't have to take the 1080 on gigs....Is
there a memory protection on the 1010 I don't know about?
Anyone?
Cheers, Robin
Sorry I can't help on the 5050 issue but can you tell me how you saved the
performance changes on the 1010, whenever I change a part to the patch I
want (using SoundDiver), it loses this when I change to another performance
or turn the module off/on....
But it works fine on my 1080, any thoughts?
Cheers, Robin
Did you ever solve this, I'm trying to do the same myself with similar
problems?
Cheers, Robin

Are you running on Mac or PC?
If Mac, you must first configure AudioMidi setup to see your gear,
including your MIDI interface.

.....saga continues, Roland now say you CAN'T save performance settings on
the 1010, what is the point of it then!! Anyone who can prove them wrong is
most welcome...
Sorry for the delay, I am just catching up.
I use the OEM SoundDiver that shipped with the JV-1010 on three units, and
I'm able to save patches, performances, all of that. I wonder if the part
you are missing is that you need to send them to the device? SD keeps
everything in parallel. It's pretty maddening sometimes if you forget to
transmit. But from the symptoms you describe, this is most likely the
problem.
Anyway, once you've set up a performance, right click it in the device
manager view, and choose Transmit. (It may be called something else, but
similar - sorry, I'm at work at the moment!)
Maybe there is a setting to do this automatically, but I haven't found it
yet in 6 years of messing with it.

Hi,
I have some problems with SD 3,1,0 beta 2Beta with the Oberheim Marix 6
Rack.
I use OS X 10,4,6 and an Emagc AMT8.
From memory, everything woks fine under OS 9 but with OS 10 it's a
nightmare.
The synth is not auto scan but seems work in manual scan.
I could receive all patches in the SD window (with some 'times' adjustment)
but when I send a
patch to the synth, I always stay on the 99 Patch. The memory protect
switch is of coarse
off. The editing window works (maybe partially) and I could hear the
manipulation.
IMO the soft is lightly buggy and I become seriously crazy.
Any help will be much appreciated, Lucien
Hello,
I have tried without success to link 2 Emagic AMT8. I use the PC/Mac cable
for making the
link. The first interface appears in the SD setup menu with only one AMT8.
Even in the first
device I can't see AMT8 (9-16), just AMT8 (1-8).
It worked on Mac OS 9 ! but with OS 10,4,6, it seems to do not
recognize the second
interface.
If someone have a good idea... I already get a hammer...
Thanks, Lucien
Hi gang.
I've been trying to read through the Adaptation Programming Manual,
but after about a page, my brain seems to melt and run out my ears,
so I thought I'd ask here.
The Adaptation for the Kawai K4 has a small flaw in it which
prevents the unit switching to MULTI mode from SINGLE mode and vice-
versa. If you're working on a SINGLE patch and then click on a
MULTI patch, the MULTI patch highlights, but the K4 doesn't actually
switch to it or load it into the edit buffer. It remains on the
previous SINGLE patch. I've been unable to implement any changes in
the adaptation to correct this, so I'm looking for an alternate
solution.
The K4 front panel has two buttons that change the bank status of
the unit: SINGLE and MULTI. Pressing the SINGLE button switches the
K4 to the SINGLE bank and pressing the MULTI button switches you to
the MUTLI bank. In either case, the actual patch # remains
unchanged (if you're on SIA-8 and you press the MULTI button, you
end up on MIA-8; if you're on MIC-12 and you press the SINGLE
button, you end up on SIC-12). The pressing of these buttons also
generates MIDI messages, which I have copied and saved in case it's
possible to implement my idea.
So, my question is: is it possible -- and if so, how -- to create a
similar pair of buttons (SINGLE and MULTI) in the Device Window
that, when clicked, will transmit the appropriate MIDI data to the
K4 and execute the necessary change?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'd really like to make this
work because my K4 sits on a shelf of my tri-level rack and getting
up to go over to change it everytime I want to change the banks just
isn't practical.
Thanks!

Hi Neil:
I am just curious about two things:
[1] Does the K4 Manual provide any insight into a System Exclusive Messsage
that performs the function you are talking about?
[2] Does the K4 accept / transmit SysEx message for front panel button
pushes? If so, you could monitor the SysEx coming out of the K4 and
duplicate the messages in the Adaptation.

I've looked through the MIDI Implementation booklet, but I haven't
seen anything that appears to address these. Not that that means
much -- my head starts to spin when I try to make sense out of that
stuff.

Oh I've captured the SysEx for both buttons, but I can't make heads
or tails out of how to apply it to the adaptation (my brain just
isn't wired for that kind of thinking, which is why I end up asking
for help here). I've tried altering a few bits of code here and
there that looked different, but nothing has worked. I've also
tried a couple of workarounds posted here over the years, but they
haven't worked either. That's why I figured I'd ask about adding
the buttons to the adaptation.

I really need some help.
I'd like to use SoundDiver to get individual drum names copied over
from my Roland JV1080 to Logic. But, at this point, I'm scared to even
launch SD, because I'm afraid SD will reset the JV1080/Logic settings
that have taken me so long to program.
SoundDiver question:
Is there a SD preference that will prevent it from sending changes?
Logic question:
I want to be able to display every drum set in the JV1080, and also
note names for every set. I have 30 sets spread out over 9 banks (5
internal sound banks and 4 expansion card sound banks). Do I need to
create 30 separate mapped instruments in the environment? Or will Logic
automatically recognize bank and set changes within a single mapped
instrument?
Forgive me for my confusion on this.
Dan
Hi Dan!
With which operating system, Logic and SoundDiver version do you work?
It's easier to help by knowing this...

Sorry for not including this.
OSX 10.3.9
Dual 2.5 GHz G5
Logic Platinum 6
SoundDiver 3.1
Unitor 8 mk2
Roland A-90 as controller/sound module
Roland JV-1080 w/ four expansion cards.
Dan
Hi
has anybody got the sounddiver to work with sequential circuits six trak?
I am strugling here, using the pc version
thanks =)
Dan
Hi Groba. Thanks for these hints. They helped! My PowerBook G4,
Mac OS 9.2.2, MotU MTP AV/USB interface and Sounddiver 3.0.52 now
seem to be working OK together.
For the reference of anyone else who may have similar problems,
here's what has to be done. (See my previous posts for a full
description of my setup.)
1. Make a configuration in MacOS X Audio MIDI Setup that does NOT
include the MTP/AV USB. This is to free up the interface and USB bus
for use by OS 9.
2. Install OMS 2.3.8. I found the installer by a google search. It
will install itself in the OS 9 System Folder.
3. Install MotU FreeMIDI 1.48. This version is available as a
download at the MotU website. It too installs in the OS 9 Folder
automatically. It is important to install FreeMIDI *after* OMS.
Otherwise the FreeMIDI installer will not install the MotU USB and
interface drivers in the OMS Folder located in the OS 9 System
Folder. (There was a tech note at the MotU website that pointed this
out.)
4. Run OMS Setup. Just as Groba said, the USB port did not appear
alongside the modem and printer serial ports as options in the setup
process; nevertheless, the MTP/AV USB was recognized when the
automatic scan is performed.
5. In SoundDiver 3, choose OMS in the MIDI Communications Preferences.
In my case, my main problem was that I already had FreeMIDI installed
on my system when I installed OMS. Thus the necessary MotU drivers
were missing from the OMS folder until I reinstalled FreeMIDI.
One curiosity: I now get an error message relating to the OS X MTP
driver every time OS X starts up. I am not worried about it now but
I may have to sort it out later. The error says:
"! System extension cannot be used. The system
extension '/System/Library/Extensions/Motu MIDI Driver.kext' was
installed improperly and cannot be used. Please try reinstalling it,
or contact the product's vendor for an update."
I'm not sure if this is a symptom of OS 9 and OS X fighting over
access to the MTP, or whether the driver became corrupted when, at
one point when I was monkeying around with the setup, Audio MIDI
setup crashed in OS X.
In any case, SoundDiver now has a new lease on life in my little
studio.
Thanks to those who offered advice!
cheers, Eric

Hi Dan
It takes quite a time but I'd do it like this - at least it worked with the
ten banks of my
Matrix-1000...
1. Make a multi object in your environment for your JV1080.
2. Open SD and copy the names of a bank and paste them into the
corresponding bank of
your multi instrument.
3. Make sure the bank change message is set correctly under Options/define
bank change
message (I'm not sure about the correct name in english).
There is no special preference in SD to disable sending changes. Just don't
hit send - as
long as you don't send data from SD to the JV1080 nothing
"serious" should happen. Just
make sure the omni and/or sysex channels and instrument ID are set correctly
in SD to be
able to receive data from your JV1080.
I never got familiar with the sound hirarchy of Roland synths - So I can't
precisely help
with your "Logic question". It's just important that the bank
change message is set
correctly within your environment so that you easily can change even between
internal and
card banks. You'll find more information on setting bank change messages,
multi and
mapped instruments in the chapter "Multi Instruments" and
"Mapped Instruments" in the
reference handbook. AFAIK you usually have to define a mapped instrument for
drum kits.
I hope this helps...
