Subject: [SoundDiver] Proteus 2000 issues
Message #17252
Hi Haven't posted here in a number of ages, as I'm running a very elderly system (Mac OS 8.6, as I'm still using an Opcode Studio 64X MIDI interface with Logic 4.8.1) and haven't had any issues to deal with. If I had the money to seriously upgrade, I wouldn't be using any hardware synths! I do have the last pre-OS X SD and I've just bought a Proteus 2000 on eBay. I am finding that I can't get any thru MIDI from my keyboard for editing sounds and the mini sequencer isn't working with it either. While double-clicking on a preset will bring up the edit window, theree doesn't seem to be any editing going on the the relevant buffer. The only time I can audition a sound from a library is when I import an *.syx file and transmit it to alibrary, in which case I can play it from the keyboard. This stuff hasn't happened with other devices I use - Roland JV1010, Korg 05R/W, Kawai K1. My Proteus OS version is 1.2.1. I have downloaded the latest version from Emu's website, but can't get the eloader application to function on my system. Would upgrading the device's OS help? I might be able to get it to work if I reinstalled OMS temporarily. As there doesn't seem to be a lot of P2K libary about on the net, I was planning to get busy programming -so far not so good, though many of the stock sounds work finew with the tracks I'm currently working on. Any help most appreciated! Tony Thompson

Hi There is an MTP emulation mode on the Studio 64X which I have used with Logic and SD for many years now - they have the drivers for that built in and the timing is great on Logic. I have only rarely had problems with SD in the past and that has usually been Autolink refusing to play ball. All I have needed to do in either Logic or SD is to nominate the MTP port a device is connected to. Tony > does the Opcode have drivers for that OS? Hi. My latest discovery with using SD and the P2K is that when I loaded the free Tweakheadz SD library of 128 patches and then dumped them to user bank 0 on the P2K, I could click on preset in the bank and edit it freely in SD. I tried copying other presets and dumping them into this bank to be a starting-off point for editing, without success. Curious. Most curious. Tony Thompson

Subject: [SoundDiver] Constant crashing
Message #17257
SoundDiver 3.0.1 beta 2 keeps crashing on my mac G5 10.4.x. It also downloads all the combos and patches every time it fires up. Is that necessary? How do I stop it from doing that. More to the point, how do I get it to not crash. I¹m using it with Logic Express 7 and a Presonus Firebox 512 with a Korg Trinity Pro. When I open it, it says it can¹t talk to the Trinity. I trash the prefs and set up a new device and it reads it fine, then crashes after I try to do some editing. Any ideas. Jay Gamel

Check your version - you should get SD 3.1.0 beta 2 (that's the "latest" version). My experience is NOT to run SD and Logic at the same time. Also, there is a known bug where SD causes a half-tone pitch shift in MIDI in Logic. I usually run SD, edit, save etc etc, then log out and back in again. Re loading every time: (I'm guessing here) When you first open SD for a module, it hasn't saved all the data for internal sounds etc. After it has done this, you save the prefs, and SD "remembers" this info each time. Because you keep trashing your prefs, SD may be trying to get back this info. Try loading all the sounds, quit (save prefs) and restart. At least you'll have all your sounds in place. Regards - Colin

This is the link to the Public beta: http://download.info.apple.com/Apple_Support_Area/emagic/Legacy_SW/OS% 20X%20SW/ Please note, we would not accept having software owned by Apple uploaded to the files section here on the Sounddiver list, without getting clear and specific permission in writing from Apple to do so. Apart from that, the 3.1 public beta is over 20 MB and thus too big for our files section anyway. I suggest you try the above link - it does work for me. thanks and regards Mark - LUG Admin

Greetings, Well honestly, I have plenty of other computers for general use stuff that will need constant updating. I'm looking for a Mac to use exclusively for Logic+SoundDiver with Autolink, since I have more than 20 instruments. As such, once it is put together, I won't need to keep up with anything past 2001 or whatever. The whole point is to stay right there and not change anything, to insure that it continues working properly. I have no desire to update a music production system annually. So, I'm still wondering what were the latest Macs and MacOS versions that I should consider. I seem to recall that after a point Macs would no longer do OS9, and that certain version(s) of OS9 (not necessarily the latest ones) are the most stable. Any recommendations? G4? 9.x.x?

I dont know exactly when and Im too lazy to look at the moment but somewhere along the way of the Mirrored door G4s I believe is when they killed the booting into OS 9. It may have been the last bunch of them with the dual 1.25/1.42s. I dont think my roommates dual 1.42 will boot into 9. Ive been perfectly fine with my Quicksilver 2002 800 since well, the day I bought it.. Just recently upgraded it to a dual 1.73 G4 to keep up with Logic.. One of these should do just fine I would think, or maybe one of the mirrored models just after it with the faster memory bus.. Memory bus is the only complaint I can still make about my mac after new dual cpu, serial ata card, geforce card, etc.. I never had any problems with Sound Diver 3/Logic 5 under any OS 9.2 version.. by the time Logic 6 was out, I was well onto OS X so I can only vouch for SD 3/ Logic 5 and OS 9.2.. Ahh those were the days.. When it all just worked hehe. For the most part.. :) --- Chris www.monotrematamusic.com www.descentrecords.com

Subject: [SoundDiver] SoundDiver (OS X) no longer authorized
Message #17273
During slow but steady recovery from a badly botched disc prolapse operation in 2004, I touched SoundDiver for the first time since about July of 2004. I have an OS X version, marked Dec 5, 2003, i.e. a public beta, not sure whether this is 3.1.0 Public Beta 1 or 3.1.0 Public Beta 2. My XSKey is authorized for everything Emagic and Apple ever put out, excluding Logic Pro 7.2 - still have mine at 7.1.1. Fired Diver up today (in OS X) and got the "No Valid SoundDiver Authorization" box, hit the "OK" button there, up comes the XSKey authorization form. It informs me "Demo expired", then shows my XSKey serial number, below that the XSKey firmware (28-12), and below that a space marked "Enter Access Codes Here". That's where I would type in the letter-number combination access codes sent me by Michael Haydn and others at Emagic. I found a couple of these, tried them, was informed they'd already been used (duh). Anybody have more true information about this? Haydn hinted (2004?) that Diver wasn't necessarily going to be killed completely, though he never (as far as I know) came right out and said that. The SoundDiver interface has survived more or less intact in Logic Pro - if you use any MIDI control surfaces (HUI, Motormix) it shows right up there, looking nearly identical with SoundDiver itself. Anyone know how to get past this snag? Any re-installations make sense? How about the beta's themselves - are they at all online any longer? Thanks for any help! (not to speak of links!) exdc
