Subject: Lexicon PCM-70
Message #16951
Has anyone successfully used the new beta version of SD with a PCM-70? When I do a scan, I see the PCM-70 window flickering as if a connection is being established, bit I end up getting a "Can't STR Setup" message flashing quickly in the PCM-70 window, and a "no new devices found" message in a SD window. There doesn't seem to be any support for this device in the SD Help menus. Any thoughts? And, many thanks in advance. Miles

It barely worked in diver OS9, allowing only the changing of the algorythm and naming the patch. Even then, I imported my banks from a smf dumped from a program called X-OR, which eventually grew into Motu's synth editor. X-OR, which I was using back in the system 7 days, still runs fine in system 9. It has a really great PCM 70 editor. I keep a G3 running because Galaxy and X-OR still talk to most of my gear that snddiver currently won't. I'm sure there are newer alternatives out there for the PCM 70. You might try sending the dump from the PCM 70 without attempting a handshake into a pogram that receives midi dump, save as a smf fx bank, and then import into Diver's sys ex module. At least you could name + organize patches that way. Good luck, Dean Bailin

Subject: [SoundDiver] Uni-Module - checksum not shown in the MIDI-Monitor?
Message #16959
Dear members, I try to create an adaptation for the Technics WSA-1R ( I know, very difficult - but at least I wanna try it....). When I create a data-request string, I can see all the defined bytes appear on the MIDI-Monitor except the checksum. I wonder, if this checksum is really sent out or just not shown in the MIDI-monitor window. I used the SUM pseudo-byte - then 3 bytes are following - and then the CHK- pseudo-byte. Any ideas?? Thanks in advance, - Miro -

The WSA-1R keeps returning an error-message after sending ANY message. So I think the (missing ??) checksum could be the problem.... regards, - Miro -

I noticed that you are the author of the Fizmo editor. I would like to get a copy of the Fizmo sysex documentation, which (I'm assuming) you must have had in order to write the editor. I am concerned that at some point, the sounddiver editor will no longer run, and I have someone who is would consider to write an editor if he had this documentation. So - if anyone knows how to contact him, or (alternatively) knows a way to get the sysex docs for this synth, I'd appreciate it. Thanks, Gene

I do have a Sysex documentation for the MR/ZR series, and when I made the module (or rather extended the existing MR/ZR module) I had a lot of e-mail correspondence with the people at Ensoniq who explained the differences to me. The Sysex doc for the MR/ ZR is on the web somewhere I think. Fizmo and MR/ZR are quite similar under the hood. The main differences are (AFAIR) that the Fizmo has a fixed number of oscillators (four) while this number can vary on the MR/ZR; there's no such thing as "performances" on the Fizmo, some parameters have extended ranges (filter type for instance), soma additional parameters (arpeggiator etc) and so on. If you compare the MR and the Fizmo in SoundDiver things will get clearer. There's also a model and family code in the header of each Sysex message which is of course different for the Fizmo. This can easily be found out using SoundDiver's MIDI monitor. If you or the person who is making that editor has any specific questions I can try to help, but please consider it's quite a while ago that I was into that stuff... Ingo

I'm not sure that with this info I can get the ball rolling, but I hope so. The developer does think that the fizmo is a very cool synth.

Subject: [SoundDiver] novation remote 25 help
Message #16968
I'm trying to remotely control my synths with my Novation Remote 25, through sounddiver. Until now to no avail. By using the learn function in SD I easily manage to assign knobs to functions in the editor window (e.g. cut-off freq.), which seems to indicate that sounddiver gets the messages that the remote 25 sends. However, if I then try to control cut-off with the assigned knob, I get erratic behaviour. Most of the time nothing happens. But sometimes the value on the synth (and in the editor window) jumps. Sometimes even other functions in the editor window and on the synth are affected, even though until now I only assigned one controller (to cut-off freq). I think I tried all possible variations in the assignment window setup screen (scaled, relative, etc.). What, if anything, do I overlook? I read the manual, but still have no clue. Thanks.
