Subject: Beta 2 & Stealth Serial Ports
Message #16828
Just thought I would have another go at SD beta 2 and could not get anything happening at all now. I tried to get SD to see my Unitor 8 MK1 on Stealth Serial port without ssucess. I do remember getting some kind of communication last time I tried. Perhaps I was dreaming? So I tried using Unitor 8 Control Version 3.1 (latest?) and noticed in it's read me that it does not support serial ports under OS X at all. Is this the same for Sound Diver? It sure looks that way...? Any help much appreciated. ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: Paul Najar Jaminajar Music Production www.jaminajar.com

I have been happily using my Unitor8 (serial) for some time in OS X via the stealth Serial Port. It works fine in Logic and other midi apps. The Audio midi setup sees it fine and I am able to do everything I can with my MT4 USB interface. Just not Sounddiver Beta 2... Hi Paul! It is rather irritating that Audio MIDI Setup and Logic handle the Unitor well and SDb2 doesn't. SDb2 is accessing MIDI over CoreMIDI - so it should accept all interfaces showing up in Audio MIDI Setup. Logic is said to be capable to access the Unitor directly - but Audio MIDI Setup, I don't think... Did you try to add the Unitor in the setup window of SDb2 manually or did you do a scan? Adding manually usually works more reliably - and faster... Have you installed the latest drivers from Geethree? http://www.geethree.com/downloads/StealthPanther.html http://www.geethree.com/downloads/stealthmidi.html The last time it worked - were you still on Jaguar/OS X.2? I remember a discussion on sonikmatter forum that Apple has likely droped a proper support for the serial port with Panther/OS X.3. I think some problems were solved by just installing the Jaguar serial driver under Panther. This may be gossip... I'd recommand nevertheless a search in http:// community.sonikmatter.com/forums/ Greets Urs Grossenbacher

Having been a SD user since 1.4 I added the U8 manually and there was no way SD would see it. I booted back into OS9 and SD ran and saw the U8 straight away. Hmmm. SD still will not see either the serial U8 OR my MT4. BUT I am able to send and receive all data form all my external midi hardware through the U8 & MT4. So the only functionality I don't have is being able to edit the settings of the actual U8 or MT4 which is no big deal. I'm just happy I have SD running under OSX to some extent. I've heard rumours that you can run SD in Classic using OMS so I might try doing that so I can edit the interfaces on the odd occasion I need to.... Hi Paul! Under Classic/OMS MIDI transmission is - in a way - monopolized by Classic so you can't access it parallely from OS X. But it seems to work... After closing Classic switch the Unitor 8 off and on again so it will be recognized again under OS X for sure. Perhaps a last try: are the MIDI In and MIDI Out Port of the Unitor 8 in the SD setup window the same in Classic and OSX? Cheers Urs

Subject: Opening Sound Diver Files in Another Editor in OSX
Message #16838
I upgraded to OSX, but now Sound Diver won't work! I need an editor that can open SD files so I don't lose all my past sounds. Ofcourse there's a new OSX version of SD, but when will it be ready, 6 months, a year & when will it be stable, another 6 months, or a year? I don't plan to put a beta version on my machine, I have enough problems already without adding to them. So does anyone know if there is there an editor that can open SD files that runs in OSX.4? Any help would be good, thanks.

And an outstandingly crap future it is. Fortunately, SoundDiver runs fine in Classic as long as you don't have anything running in OS X when you need the MIDI interface. A nice little 'feature' of the beta is no matter what, if you open up a patch, when you close the window it will write the patch back to the synth whether you tell it to transmit or not.. Just be careful when you open up patches if you change anything in them, that change will automatically be written back to the synth even if you didnt tell it to! Yes. Well after giving B2 another try in the last few days I must say it works not bad here either on OS X.3.9. Perhaps it was the OS updates that improved a few things since I last tried around X.3.1. It garbles the names of patches occasionally but you request it again and it finds them. I'm just happy to have it back online - even without Autolink. SY99, K5000R, Prophet5, Alesis Midiverb 2, Quadraverb Plus & Wedge, Yamaha O3D. BTW, how do you guys get your patch names to show up in Logic now days? Is it some core audio thing I have to do?
