Subject: VL on MU100R
Message #15051
I am looking for a way to edit the PLG100-VL on my MU100R. Is there a way? I tried the VL70-m adaptation, but it did not recognize the MU100R. What can I do? Is it possible to edit the 6 Custom voices or also the 64 Internal voice? (Probably it is not possible to edit/copy the Preset banks?) Any help is welcome?

The VL70-m adaptation only works with the VL70-m in Voice mode. In the VL-XG mode the VL70-m uses different Sysex headers. I'm not sure here, but I think I heard once the VL card in the MU is only compatible with the VL-XG mode. Anyone got a Sysex doc of the MU? It's easy to find out: In Voice mode the 4th Sysex byte is 57(hex), in VL-XG mode it's 4C(hex). BTW, did you "scan" the VL70-m or did you add it manually to the setup? > Is it possible to edit the 6 Custom voices or also the > 64 Internal voice? You can edit a copy of a Preset Voice in the VL70-m's edit buffer, then save it into a Custom slot. Ingo (co-author VL70-m adaptation)

I installed the adaptation manually. Maybe I should try a scan? I have the MU100R sysex doc (see http://www2.yamaha.co.jp/manual/pdf/emi/english/xg/MU100RE2.PDF ) and think that the MU can work in both modes. What I do not understand: Do I have to set e.g. Part 1 to a VL voice and THEN do the scan to have the MU recognized? Another question is: Can I use VL70-m sysex files with my MU? I tried, but it seems not to work. Do you have any idea why? BTW: I just recognized that in the MU100R manual is no <BULK DUMP REQUEST> specified for the VL part. Maybe this is the problem? In the VL70-m manual it is mentioned: F0H, 43H, 2nH, 57H or 4CH, ahH, amH, alH, F7H 2n : nÞvice Number ah : Address High am : Address Mid al : Address Low Thanks for your help, Peter --- In sounddiver-users@yahoogroups.com, Ingo Debus <debus@c...> wrote: > > Am Montag, 13.10.03 um 15:02 Uhr schrieb bosy385: > > > I tried the VL70-m adaptation, but it did not recognize the MU100R. > > > > The VL70-m has two modes, the "Voice" mode and the "VL-XG" mode. > Is it possible to make the MU dump a voice from the front panel? SoundDiver should get the dump then too. No, the VL voices cannot be dumped. OK, I think this means that I can't request MU100R VL sounds from sounddiver. But does this also mean that I can't edit the VL sounds in Sounddiver and send them to the MU? (i.e. is the ability to dump required to edit sounds?) I did not work that much with sounddiver, but as far as I remember, I can import/export sounds also from/to SYSEX. Maybe I can load a VL70- m SYSEX file, edit and then save with different name. (This way I do not need to request MU100R sounds from sounddiver...) Unfortunately I have no time until Sunday to try out as I am about to move from my flat to a house and there is a lot of work... But inbetween all work I need also to think about music stuff to relax a bit.... Thanks for your support, Ingo. But there is no hurry (exept for my unpatience and my desire to solve a problem and learn something.....) CU, Peter

So one can't access the VL voices at all? Doh! It's not very likely, but probably they just forgot the dump requests in the documentation. No surprise that you cannot request most of the items with SoundDiver because often "key remote" commands were used to do the requests (i.e. commands that press virtually a key on the VL70-m's front panel. That's certainly not compatible with the MU100R). However, Internal Voices are requested with ordinary dump requests. Don't these work either? In the files area of this yahoogroups mailing list there are a few VL70-m voices in SoundDiver format. You can try to transmit these to your MU100R.

I really don't know why, but now also VL70-m SYSEX files send to the MU100R via MidiOX work as well as using LIB files in Yamahas Expert Editor. Thanks a lot for your guidance! Peter

I can't scan my zenTera amp. I have a midiman usb 2x2, on start up, the prog doesn't recognize the amp. It does manually by clicking on the computer icone, but the scanning session last forever. Today I stopped after 6 hours, and the scanning was steal running! is it normal that the scanning last so long? I tried also to download the update and i just can't install it. I have the Stuffit program but but it did'nt work, or I don't know how to do it. Can someone tell me how to install the update. But first, I really want to know how to scan and update my zenTera.

Subject: SupernovaII, WindowsXPPro, Strange Crashes
Message #15067
Hello - I am a new member of this forum, and would like to describe a problem I am having. I have searched the archives for "Supernova", "Wavestation", "Crash", "Windows XP", but really haven't found a satisfactory answer. The problem isn't really just a Supernova II problem (great editing interface!). I have a Carillon computer with Windows XP Pro installed, and am using the latest version of SoundDiver (I have had this problem with all versions). I have the Supernova, a Wavestation, a Xpander and a Drehbank installed. First question: I have noticed I cannot get complete dumps from these instruments, for example the Wavestation SR will not transmit all of its patches. Second, frequently I make the mistake of left-clicking on a patch or performance in SoundDiver - this can crash my entire computer, causing it to restart. This can happen from either a library file or from the view of instrument contents when one opens an instrument. Of these problems, the most troubling is the system crashes. Finally, when I am in a library and want to edit a patch (this happens in all instruments), sometimes I can only get a performance edit view, or an arpeggiator view, etc - in otherwords the program seems to get stuck on a particular edit view even though I am switching between different functions of the synthesizer. Anyone have any tips on where to begin? This is a powerful editing program, but I am afraid of using it! Thanks

Subject: Line 6 Pod Pro / Sounddiver issues
Message #15070
Greetings! This is my first post and I am hoping I can find some help. For the past 5 months I have been pulling my hair out trying to get Sounddiver to work with my Line 6 Pod Pro. I am using a midisport 1x1 midi controller which works like a charm on my other midi devices. I followed Line 6's instructions to a tee and this is the message I get when Sonddiver initially scans the Pod: Sysex Communication Error: Pod Pro didn't respond Please check if - the device is connected with the computer in both directions - the midi in and out ports are connected - the device ID matches The first two are ok but I am a tad fuzzy on the whole device ID stuff and maybe something is set up wrong. All I know is I have upgraded, uninstalled, reinstalled, rebooted, contacted tech support from all 3 companies and am still in the same prediciment. Hopefully someone has had similiar problems and can help me out. I have had this software for 5 months and have yet to use it correctly. On a side note, if I switch the midi cables around on the POD so the in goes to the in and the out goes to the out I am able to transfer data to the Pod but cannot receive. when everything is hooked up correctly per Line 6's directions I can neither receive or transmit. Thanks in advance! I am glad I found this group! Bryan

Subject: GR-33 adaptation
Message #15071
This is a reply to #15070.
I'm trying to get the Roland GR-33 adaptation working with little success. I had a Roland GR-30 and the GR-30 adaptation worked fine with it. However, the GR-33 adaptation just plain refuses to talk to the device. Interestingly, if I use the GR-30 adaptation with the GR-33 I do get some interaction with the GR-33 device so I am quite certain all the MIDI connections are correct. I have SD talking fine to an XV-88 and as I said the GR0-30 use to work very nicely as well. This GR-33 is a fairly recent purchase so perhaps something has changed in either the device ID (the docs and adaptation both seem to agree that it should be 16 decimal or 10H) or the model ID (the docs and adaptation both agree that it should be 00 30H)? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated since I am heavily dependent on being able to edit patches from SD. PcF p.s. An aside to Michael Haydn concerning the Roland GT-5 effect pedal: would there be any hope of success in modifying the GT-5 adaptation to play nice with a GT-3 or would an adaptation need to be started from scratch?

Ya motu's stuff really is not quality. It sucks in a matter of terms. -----Original Message----- From: circlingkailas2002 [mailto:cynthiaoksanen@...] Sent: Saturday, October 18, 2003 2:45 PM To: sounddiver-users@yahoogroups.com Subject: Re: [SoundDiver] Oh my god, I just did a search for "crash" "windows XP" Interesting - I have a Carillon with XP Pro, and a MOTU Miditimepiece AV. Just to clarify, with the MTP-AV the PC did not crash. But trying to transfer more then 1 patch at a time really screwed things up . In fact I almost sent my FS1Rs back to Yamaha due to the corrupted data it received and only after I removed the FS1R battery could I resolve the lock up. BTW I never got a difinitive answer on what was going on and you may not either. Its hard to say whether the MTP windows XP drivers are faulty of if Sounddiver has some fickle code that only works reliably with their own hardware. I ended up taking a chance and buying the UnitorMark II and AMT8. Fortunately that workwed for me. Good luck. ----- Original Message ----- From: "circlingkailas2002" <cynthiaoksanen@...> To: <sounddiver-users@yahoogroups.com> Sent: Saturday, October 18, 2003 3:44 PM Subject: Re: [SoundDiver] Oh my god, I just did a search for "crash" "windows XP" > Interesting - I have a Carillon with XP Pro, and a MOTU Miditimepiece > AV.
