Emne: [SoundDiver] Roland VG-88
Hi,
I have a Roland VG-88 here. In Sound Diver 3.052 there is a support for this
unit. However when I try to install the program shows a picture of quite
another unit.
When I install it the Sound Diver says that it can´t find a VG-88 help
file and quits installing the unit. Any ideas what to do ?
On forhand thanx

It shows the picture of the "built in " icon that is used if no
custom icon
for the device was created.

You have to install it manually; there is no scan possible.
I think the VG-88 doesn't allow requests either so you have to manually
transmit the whole memory from the VG-88. I also think it can receive the
dumps only in certain modes (for example it won't receive SysEx dumps while
in edit mode if I recall correctly).
Same holds true for the V-Bass.

"Don't forget to TURN ON THE SYNTHESIZER. Often this is the reason why
you
get no sound out of it." (ARP 2600 Owner's Manual)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Looks like no one's able to answer this -- I've been scouring the
web for weeks! The sound effect itself is really secondary to the
actual problem of the error message. What is this "text" that's
not
found and how do I make the system find it?
My problem is in WinXP Home, and occurs (as I said in the original
post) with both Emagic products running on my system (Unitor Control
and SD, both in their most recent incarnations). For kicks, I
installed SD on my laptop (also running XP Home), but I don't get
the error there! Aaarrrgh! I even disabled hyperthreading on my main
machine (to solve some problems with NI soft synths) to see if that
made a difference, thinking that perhaps Emagic too doesn't support
dual-processors (or hyperthreading, which looks like a dual
processor to the system). No dice. Text Not Found! Text Not Found!
So basically, we're floating in the wind trying to solve the issue
at hand... and the sound? Well, that just adds salt to the wound, so
to speak. And I could live with that being there if the only time I
blew my eardrums out with it was when I needed to reauthorize yet
again. But two blasts everytime I open the software? C'mon!
Does anyone have *any* idea of where else to look to suppress
the "Text Not Found" error?

Sorry, but you are in the wrong forum here. Actually there is no EMI
2|6 forum that I know of.
This issue has been raised before but since I am encountering serious
troubles now and can't use SoundDiver adequatly, I would like to find some
support with the following.
The combination Windows XP, Sounddiver and the Edirol UM880 midi interface,
doesn't seem to work well
As soon as I close sounddiver the program hangs (task manager says it is not
responding) and the only way I can kill it is by means of the taskmanager or
restarting the PC
Also with some synth modules Sounddiver now seems to behave strangely: with
data dumps or requests, sometimes the program stops, sometimes midi
communication does take a long while without any noticeable reason. This
problem exists with editing the Nord Rack 3, Oberheim M1000 and possibly
some more modules.
I do use the latest XP driver for the Edirol midi interface and I have found
out that all other midi programs do seem to work well (such as Cubase SX),
i.e. no hangups during or at closing of the program. My Sounddiver worked
fine under Win 98 with the Edirol interface but since I have upgraded to a
new PC with XP, these troubles persist
I would like to know who has encountered this problem as well and if he/she
has found the cause for this
Maybe Michael could give some helping hand or tips how to shoot troubles.
Any help is very welcome, I definitely want to go back to a fine working
sounddiver.
Thanks
eric
Well I had it working once upon a time with SD. Recently hooked it
backup. It still had the last stuff I programmed through SD
This time SD won't scan it. I tried install then just add. I tried to
help by setting the computer connections. I know it is hooked up
correctly because all the controllers and modules play through
correctly.
Maybe I am forgetting some nuance?
MX-8 users, Micheal?
Thanks much!!!
Mark
There's three things you can do to make Sound Diver work well with
XP.
1)Download the 3.05 update
2)Set your buffer size in the preferences to 1
3)run Sound Diver in Windows 98 compatibility mode if using an older
version(right click on the .exe and choose properties/compatibility.
The 3.05 update and the buffer size will usually do the trick-
sometimes you still have to run it in Win 98 mode, though.
ew
hi ewistrand
thanks for your feedback
I already used the 3.05 update, so that leaves me options 2 and 3
I will certainly let the list know what the results are
one question for now: are more users encountering problems in the
combination windows XP and sounddiver
(i.e. is my problem maybe not related to the edirol, but XP/SD only ?)

Hello ,
I would really love to have at least
library support for these great synths
I know that they all have external editors already ..
still when u have 30 synths is not nice to open and close
editors all the time ..
-- Yamaha dx200
(midi specs available on manual
sysex bank compatible already with the dx7)
-- Yamaha an200
(midi specs available on manual)
-- Oberheim OB12
(editor would be nice but not essential, it is so
much nicer to do it from the lovely panel !)
(midi specs ? maybe asking to Viscount ?)
Tnx in advance
Regards

Hallo my english is very bad.
I have an Win XP + MAudio Midi sport 8x8(i had in a future the edirol880, i
think it was not so good the patch work is very bad, and the Maudio midi
sport have an very very good patch utility))
1.for working with no probs do the
system compatibili of the Sounddiver.exe to the Win98 compatibilität.
And
Now it works with no Probs.
2.Wenn Sounddiver start or close (stop) and it hang up: Is is to 80% your
Soundcard or your Midi port from your Card or Sound driver from your WinXP.
All other ports must disable in Sounddiver z.b. MPU and Windows Wave
Terminal (not the Edirol-880 i think it was 9 Driver for the 880- all ather
driver must desable).
In the Win.ini from your win XP the midiport in Category [sounddiver] set to
=1 (is
off).
And now i have fun and have no probs on Windows XP and Sounddiver and all my
Midi Progs.
Thanks for decrypt my English Achim Pieper and i thin you have fun after my
configuration.

Hi all
thanks for the input from Rakim and Ewistrand
I have checked a couple of these solutions:
Setting the midi buffer size to 1: doesn't make any difference
Starting Sounddiver in Win98 compatibility mode: it seems that Sounddiver
now sometimes is more stable, after closing the program it just ends
normally and I can start it again. But once every 4 times I run SD, it gives
a hangup again
I also tried the solution by Rakim: I have deactivated all other midi
outputs (for instance the standard midi port on the PC) but this does not
seem to help
I still have this feeling that something between WinXP and Sounddiver is not
quite right, although I am happy that I can run Sounddiver better now I
still feel the cause of the unstability should be found. I wonder if more
XP/SD users have any problems such as mine ?
Maybe Michael has some feedback from other users: is there anything that I
could try to find out what the cause of this problem is ?

No idea. Please send me a MIDI Monitor protocol of the scan:
* open the MIDI Monitor
* start scanning
* bring the MIDI Monitor to the foreground

I've only problems with one device-my Ensoniq VFX-SD.Every time I

I too would like to use SD on my PC and sequence w/ Logic on my Mac-
I'd like to do it as cheaply as possible. Will I need to by some midi
merge midi splitters or a patchbay?

It's probably because the VFX-SD sends a bank dump in one huge SysEx
message (about 60 KB) which probably the UM-880's MIDI driver can't
handle correctly. A workaround would be to select an entire bank except
one entry and request these. This will perform the request by recalling
every Program and then request the edit buffer. Slower, but the
incoming dumps are much shorter.
I have a midi in and out on a pc going to an out and in respectively
on a mac. With logic set to pass incoming sysex thru, I can at least
use sound diver to load/edit patches. Would really like to have sd on
osx though...

Hi Michael,
Thanks for answering.I've written to you about this problem before.I
was just referring with problems with XP and Sound Diver-I use a
Midiman Midisport 8x8 myself. Also,I can send and receive banks from
the VFX-SD fine-it's when I try to save them as a library in Sound
Diver that the problems occur. That's why I'm saying it's not a MIDI
problem(communication works fine!)and it's a problem with Sound
Diver.
As to the bank sizes,my microQ works fine-130K per bank. So,I don't
see where that's an issue.
Thanks for replying,
ew

Hi Michael, EW and others
Yes this is quite confusing because ew responded to a message from me,
concerning problems with SOunddiver under XP
I have already found out that it is definitely not the UM880 that is causing
troubles, because it works fine from cubase, even when I send
huge amounts of exclusive data over several channels and ports at once
it just seems that Sounddiver 3.05 with XP is not working 100% ok, sometimes
it is unstable and I definitely would like to know if there is some sort of
test that I could run to find out what is causing the problem....SD
sometimes just hangs without any error message (and task manager saying the
program is not responding anymore
so please Micheal, maybe you can look up the previous messages on this
subject, at least 3 SD users have reported the same problem and I hope you
can give some helping hand here....
thanks in advance
eric

This question is addressed to any advanced SD users (MH is of course
welcome to respond!):
I haven't done any advanced programming in SD in over 7 years;
considering the current state of the software, is it possible to
write a preset translation adaption that would take a sound dump from
one type of synth, allow remapping of parameters to a different
configuration, and re-assembly of this new information into a new
sound dump for a different synth? Or is this too complicated for the
adaption programming tools available?
TIA!
Q
PS: is the SD-SDK available for third party programming of modules?
good tip on passing sysex through Logic-
So how does SD on the PC see your synths connected to the Mac's MIDI
interface?

Dear sirs,
I had a conversation with a friend the other day. We were discussing
"making sounds". I told him that the nicest editor I have worked
with is an old editor for Juno106 that was free on the net somewhere. The
reason : there was this particularly nice big "Random" button on
it. So while I was watching TV news or what ever, I could be sitting
carelessly, and strike the thing. It was sent to the Juno106 and than I
slammed a chord, and once in a while you would get very nice sounds that
way. When watching TV it´s bang onto use the time in double mode at
least these last times. He agreed with me. He had had similar thing and it
was often surpricing what came up.
Just hope SoundDiver will hook up on this "random" thing (where
one could maybe pick out which parameters should be in random mode and which
not.
Sincerely,
Greetings,

Greets,
I've been putting the finishing touches on a large Logic environment
for the Axon AX-100SB, a midi-to-guitar converter which includes a
Yamaha DB50XG synth daughterboard. Some members of the midiguitar
community have suggested that I work on a SoundDiver implementation for
the unit.
However, I don't own SoundDiver, and I'm pretty discouraged by how long
it's been lingering without the promised OS X compatible update, and by
Emagic's uncertain commitment to future development (as discussed in
the recent "News" thread). If I were to take on a project as
involved
as building a patch editor, I would like the creation to function for a
number of years after I finish. I would also like to be able to
exploit the skills that I develop through working on the project.
Given what appears to be SoundDiver's clouded future, I'm leery on both
counts.
I might be more inclined to support an open source project like
JSynthLib.

Any thoughts about JSynthLib or other OS X compatible alternatives to
SD?
Cheers,
