If you're a PC user you might want to look at "Triton Controller" at: http://www.pryer.freeserve.co.uk/ The GUI isn't nearly as Eurotech as SD, but the support seems a lot more personal and active, and the writer is open to suggestions from registered users. Kind of refreshing after what SD support has become. I'm looking into it myself. Q

Subject: SoundDiver hangs
Message #13907
Hi, I have SoundDiver OEM for Access Virus (latest update installed) set the buffer to 1KB and also set Win98 compatibility mode in WinXP, but I'm still getting hangs. I can often transmit/receive/edit single programs, but if I transmit a whole bank it just stops at some point. SoundDiver just has the hourglass, and the Virus has the "SE" status (presumably meaning Sysex transmission). It just stays like this forever. I then try CTRL+ALT+DEL to kill SoundDiver and Windows asks me if I want to end the program. I say yes, It creastes a dump but doesn't end SoundDiver. Sounddiver says not responding. The only way I can get out of it is to Reboot. This happens when SoundDiver is the only program active or when it is active alongside Cubase SX. Cubase remains fine even when SoundDiver hangs. I use Midex8 with drivers 1.80 (works fine in Cubase SX 1.50) I have had SoundDiver Retail before which worked fine under Win98, was using Roland SMPU64 then though. Anyone any ideas. Subject: Limited Mac-Sounddiver available?
Message #13909
Is there a limited version of Sounddiver available for developers of adaptions? I have the full, original (and legal) Atari ST version of SoundDiver (version 2.06) which works fine for me, but won't allow me to fully edit adaptions (I get an "out of memory" error message whenever I try certain edits), and need to resort to help from another Sounddiver user who has the PC version. Very frustrating and unnecessary in my opinion. I don't even need MIDI capabilities, and have no need of using SoundDiver on my Mac other than to edit the adaption. I'd rather not resort to a pirated version either, so I'm wondering if there is a limited "development" version of Sounddiver Macintosh available? How do you get rid of it???? You know ... the one that fries your speakers whenever you have to put the CD in the drive to authorize. I have Sounddive 3.0 for Windows. I've searched for a wave file but found none. Anyone know how to get rid of this? It's bad enough that you have to put the CD but this noise really drives me crazy.

Subject: Weird Logic MIDI problem on launch
Message #13912
OK, I've spent a significant amount of time noodling with this, and haven't been able to find a solution as of yet. My problem started after installing ESB when I switched from exclusively using OMS (timing really went south once I began using native instruments) to using the Unified Virtual and Classic Engine with AMT. (I had been using OMS because I liked the ability to toggle back and forth between Logic and Coda Finale.) When I was using just OMS prior to installing ESB, everything was cool. Now, however, whenever I boot Logic 5.5, something is weird with MIDI (I'm using five AMT8's via USB). When I first launch Logic, it seems that my MIDI controller(s) will not generate any MIDI note off commands, and everything just continues sustaining. Sending a panic message does not cure the condition. What *does* cure the condition is going the Preferences Menu, opening the MIDI Interface Communication window, and then going to Connection 1 (where I have the USB Unitor Family selected) and turning that connection off, and then on again. After I do that, everything is normal and works well. I can close the song and open up different songs, and they all work fine. If, however, I close Logic and then relaunch Logic, the problem is back again. I've tried with and without OMS also enabled, and that doesn't make a difference (although switching that option will also clear the problem in the same way that turning USB Unitor Family on and off will. I've also tried with and without AMT enabled, and that made no difference. I guess I can get along with this since I have the work-around, but it would be nice to have a solution. Has anyone else had this problem or have any ideas on how to cure it? One more discovery... If I disable the OMS extension in extension manager, I don't get the problem on launch. If I do that, however, Logic crashes with a type 10 error when I quit it. Subject: Sound Diver-working with Logic--Questions
Message #13917
Okay., I am having some conceptual problems using Sound Diver together with Logic. I will do my best to explain the issues that I am grapling with and hopefully some of you can help me out. I have a fairly large midi setup and it is difficult to keep track of all the sounds I have. So using Sound diver I created "master" libraries for each of my synths. The master libraries contain the patches (or programs or sounds –whatever you wish to call them) that came with the synth as well as additional patches that were purchased or downloaded from the internet. For example, for my Access Virus I have a master library containing approximately 2700 patches—each of which has been classified as bass, string, decay etc. I have done this so that when I use the sort by comment command all my bass sounds are grouped together continguously in the library as are other categories that I have created-eg string, brass etc. I like to sort the library this way because when I am looking for a particular sound it makes it easier to find. So far so good. I have set up screensets for each of the devices that display the device window for the synth as well as the master library. Thus, if I want a bass sound on channel 2 of the Virus I go to screenset 7 in my configuration. (NOTE-I have dual monitors). On the left monitor is the arrange page for the Logic song I am working on and on the left page is the device window and master library for the Virus. In the Logic arrange page I click on track 2 of the Virus so that midi being sent from my controller goes to channel 2 of that device. Then I click on the Virus device window in the box/slot that corresponds with channel two—the box/slot is highlighted when I do this. Then I click on my master library and start selecting bass sounds-I have auto audition enable in Sound Diver, thus, the selections I make are instantly sent to the Virus. So far so good. I follow the above procedure for each of my synths until I find all the sounds that I want for the track. The conceptual problems I am experiencing arise when I go to save my selections. What I have been doing is creating a new library that corresponds to the song I am working on and then going into each device window and manually selecting the sounds I am using and saving them to the Library that corresponds with the song. But this is time consuming because I have 15 midi devices in my system. Alternatively, if I go to the setup window and select all the devices, I can use the build library function and a new library will be created for the song—but the library takes a while to build (and to load I might add) because the build library function cannot solely be limited to the sounds or multis I am working with. Thus, my query so far seems to be: does anyone know of a more efficient way to use Sound Diver in conjunction with Logic to manage and select sounds for songs. Finally, I have noticed another difficulty with using Sound Diver with Multi instruments. In the device window, using the Virus as an example, there are 16 slots in the Multi Singles Bank that correspond to the 16 channels that the Virus can receive in Multi Mode. There is also a slot for the Active Multi. If I choose a sound from my master library, for example a bell sound, while I have highlighted slot 4 in the Multi singles box, then if I play my controller and I have selected track four in Logic I will hear the bell sound that I have selected. However, if I click on the active multi box, I loose the choices I have made in the multi singles window. When the Active Multi editor is opened, I can select patches for channels 1-16 but I cannot make the selection from my master library—I am limited to choosing sounds that are in the banks of the device window. This is of limited use because as I explained earlier, my master libraries often contain more sounds than the synths can hold in their internal memories. Thus, I do not transmit the master library to the synth or to the entry slots in the device window because there are not enough slots for all the patches that are contained in the library. So I am limited in the number of patches from which I can choose, AND, the banks do not show the comments for the sounds so if I am looking for a bass sound for example, I have to search through all the banks willy nilly looking for bass sounds. I find this to be an inefficient manner in which to work with the program. I have read the manual cover to cover twice and cannot find a solution. If anyone can shed some light on my connundrum it would be greatly appreciated. Thank-you daviscremar@...

Subject: Korg Triton Pro X
Message #13920
This might be old news... While Sound Diver recognizes my Triton Pro X, it doesn't seem to want to read the patch names when I send the "request" (command R) command. I get the prompt: "Receiving data from Triton pro X" and the activity bar goes from left to right but in the end I get no data. I've noticed under the sound diver section on the emagic site that when you click on the Korg "instruments supported" button no units come up. Is this a Korg thing an Emagic thing or can I just get a Korg Triton Prox multi set from somewhere? Thanks in advance. K __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! That makes sense but that sound has to be coming from a file on my HDD since I haven't put the CD in at that point. If I could find that file I could delete it or perhaps edit it to make it silent. If If I just new the file format maybe I'd be succesful in finding it. I've searched for WAVs but havn't found any in the Emagic folders. --- In sounddiver-users@yahoogroups.com, Michael Haydn <mhaydn@m...> wrote: > At 19:40 Uhr +0000 22.02.2003, deanesque <deanesque@w...> wrote: > >I have switched of Sound Effects but that only seems to turn off the > >sounds during use - not the sound you hear when it asks you to put > >in the CD for authorization. > > At that stage, SoundDiver has not yet read its preferences. > -- > > Beste Gruesse - best regards, > Michael Haydn > - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - > Dipl.-Inform. it's probably embedded in the executable. I'd say that this should be a top priority bug fix. --- "deanesque <deanesque@...>" <deanesque@...> wrote: > That makes sense but that sound has to be coming > from a file on my > HDD since I haven't put the CD in at that point. You can replace it by a sound resource which contains silence. You will need a program which edits resources. -- Beste Gruesse - best regards, Michael Haydn - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Dipl.-Inform. Univ.
