Hallvard, you *must* define a "Single Dump" stringmessage in the
bandkdriver for the "Tone", otherwise no sysex is transmitted to
your
JX8P. See also the Midi Monitor window. Just fill in these fields the
exact same message as defined in the "Outgoing Single Dump op...".

When selecting a patch from the MKS-70 device window, only a program
change is sent to the MKS-70 (that is the old adaptation does that).
Let me know what happens.

This is really all Greek to me. Some parameters are adjustable in the
adaption on my Atari ST, while others give me a "not enough
memory" error
message which of course isn't true as I have plenty of memory left over.
I really need someone with knowledge about adaption editing to look it
over. I've tried comparing the old adaption with the new one, trying to
find out where the differences are found, but that's a little hard when
it's not possible to print out the adaption settings (I've tried).
If someone could help with the adaption I'd be happy to try it out with my
JX-8P.

I'll see what I can find out.

Send your "not so good working" Atari-adaptation from the JX8P to
bronswerk@...
If adaptations are really compatible, then I can investigate the
problem in a Windows version.
Greetings, Bert Keizer.
is there an adaptation for

Hey, I'll second that one but I don't think you'll find many guitar players
in here so a G-Force adaptation might be up to us. There is a decent Gr-33
adaptation though and a patchlist for the Korg A2.

I uploaded it and announced it here a few days ago. Anyone can get at it by
going to:
http://home.c2i.net/st_hall/new_jx8p_adaption.zip
But I've also mailed it directly to you now.
Thanks for wanting to look into it.

Hi, Hallvard.
Both old and new JX adaptations do send the same 'Parameter Change' messages
to JX. So I haven't understood why your JX does not 'Audit.'
What Tone is selected when you tweak the sound with your new adaptation?
I have in mind the possibility that the new adaptation happens to select
a different Tone other than the currently edited.

Hmmm... I'm not familiar with the actual parameters of the adaptions, but
all I know is that the "new adaption doesn't seem to fully work as it
should.
>What Tone is selected when you tweak the sound with your new adaptation?
>I have in mind the possibility that the new adaptation happens to select

OK, here's what happens:
first the "old" adaption (the one that comes with the Sounddiver
installation disks):
With a librarian window open, whenever I single-click on a sound, that
sound is played on the synth. The JX-8P display shows an "M" in
front of
the currently selected sound within the synth. I guess that "M"
means it's
in temporary memory, though I have no idea what it stands for.
I've only seen the letters "C" (cartridge), "I"
(internal) and "P" (preset)
before, so this is probably some sysex thing which normally isn't available
within the synth itself.
Hmmmm... I noticed something which I haven't thought that much about and
could be the cause of my problems... I haven't really used Sounddiver for
very long, so this might be something elementary which I should know, but
the memory manager window contains a "Tone" section with room for
one
sound, and underneath it is a section with room for 32 sounds named
"Internal tones".
To be able to audit the sounds I have to click once on the "tone"
section
(making it invert). After that I can click on any sound in the current
library window, which is then audited (played) from the synth. I notice
that the "tone" section receives the currently clicked sound from
the
library window, so I'm guessing this is some sort of temporary window.
OK, moving on to the "new" adaption which handles 32 tones at
once...
Here the memory manager window looks the same as the previous one, but the
"internal tones" window is what receives the sounds, and that at a
total of
32 (a complete bank).
I knew it was techincally possible to dump a whole bank at once from the
JX-8P since another librarian I have for the Atari ST allows for this
("Super librarian").
Anyway, the "tone" section in this window shows the sound I've
selected
from the librarian window, just as with the old adaption, but whenever I
single-click on a sound (either in the memory manager window or the
librarian window, the synth plays the currently selected sound on the synth
itself (i.e. the sound I've selected from the JX-8P's own "bank"
and "tone"
buttons. Instead it *should* play the sound I've clicked on in Sounddiver,
and the JX-8P's display should show the name of that sound, but it doesn't.
In addition to the new JX-8P adaption I've also uploaded the
"old",
original adaption to the same site. Both of them can now be gotten here:

HI,
i was using SD with ME until i moved on to XP. SD with this OS is
pretty much a waste of time. so, i figured i could split my computer
to boot either ME (for SD use) or XP (for other stuff) or go with
2000 and XP. the benefits of going 2000 and XP will be the use of
NTFS throughout. however, i have not tried SD with 2000.
has anyone used SD on both ME and 2000 that would be able to share
the program stability on each?
thank you.

I don't know what's the trouble with your setup, but my SD runs
perfectly smoothly on XP. Did you set the buffer to 1kB? You need to
specify, what the problem is if you want to get specific help.

Hi,
I found that the modified version of JX-8P adaptation recently made uses
"Outgoing Single Dump (optional)" SysEx strings in its Bank
Driver.
Does anyone know what this means?
I couldn't find it in our latest programming manual (still for SD ver.
2.02). Is it the feature added in SD3, though I couldn't find it in the
change history?
Thanks in advance.

Hi,
I recently got a Sony HR-MP5 multi-effector without a manual, and wish
to make an adaptation to edit it with SD.
If anyone has access to its SysEx document, please let me know. Thanks
in advance.

"Outgoing single dump" is a fairly new addition to the Universal
module. It
could very well be that this is an incompatibility between the (old) Atari
version and the newer versions.
In a nutshell: For a few (usually very old) devices the dump the device
sends is different from the dump the device receives and understands. Yes,
it's very unusual. Some examples are the Voyetra 8 and the Casio CZ synths.
That's why you have an optional "outgoing" dump in the adaptation.

Forget it. The whole SysEx implementation was very bad (like having the
HR-MP5 in a specific state to receive any SysEx at all - a bit like the
good ol' tape interface). I doubt that any remote programming is
implemented at all.

Thank you very much for your help, Malte.
It's a good option to enhance the Universal Module's capability.

Did you already try version 3.0.4. I think there was an older
SoundDiver version which required a system library which is actually
not necessary.

As a newbie I am confused on this issue. By "memory manager" do
you
mean the SD device window? I am not clear on moving items back and
forth between the library and the device windows. Also when I
try "build library>All Editable entries" I only get a few
items. Why?
There have been some posts in the past on this, but I was wondering
if the Orbit 3 issues ever got resolved. The ROMS/Instruments don't
register right when I use the P2k or XL-1 Turbo drivers and also
neither have full support of the Arp and BEATS functions available on
the Orbit 3. If there is no way to get around this, is there a way
to edit the P2k or XL-1 drivers instead of creating an Orbit 3 driver
from scratch?

Strange. The Beat Garden ROM (which is, according to E-mu's website, the
Orbit 3's sound ROM) is supported in the SD module, and also the arps
and beats (which are now, with OS 2.26, accessible in any version of the
P2K). I have uploaded a new version of the module (file "Pro2000
20021202.zip" in the files section of this yahoogroup), please download
and try it to check if any of our latest bugfixes already cure your
problem. Also make sure to install the latest OS version from the E-mu
website on your Orbit3.

Sorry, yes I do. Must have been a term from way back.
> I am not clear on moving items back and

The device window mirrors your synth. A library can contain entries
from all your synths, or one device only. A library doesn't
"intrude"
on the arrangement of sounds in your hardware. When you drag an entry
from a device to a library, you do so merely for sorting, storage,
backup etc. When you drag an entry from your library to the device
window, you are either writing that sound into your hardware memory
location, or into a temp buffer, depending on the synth.
>Also when I
>try "build library>All Editable entries" I only get a few

Can't help on that - I never use this function. Michael, someone....?
Regards - Colin
Hello.
I'm making an adaptation and would like to use the virtical sliders in
MAP handling mode.
I put the sliders in my adaptation and set them to MAP mode.
In MAP mode, I can set values to the sliders by one click, without dragging.
When I drag the mouse horizontally, I can control other sliders at once.
I think this is a great feature.
The problem is:
There is a MAP mode slider whose value ranges from 0 to 63.
When I click the top part of the slider, value 13 is set.
When I click the middle of the slider, value 4 is set.
To set value 63, I have to click the slider and drag more than 200pixels
above.
I wish:
When I clicked the top of the slider, value around 63 could be set.
When I clicked the middle of the slider, value around 32 could be set.
In this way, input values would be consistent to where clicked.
I'd like to ask:
Is it normal behaviour of SD and do I misunderstand the concept of MAP
mode?
If not, how could I ameliorate this?
Thanks in advance.
Regards,
Sealed

"Editable" means edit buffers, i.e. entries for which you can open
an
editor window. If you want to save the user memory contents, choose
"Memory Entries".

It seems this is an oversight in the new slider scaling feature. Set
the slider scaling to 0, and it should work as expected.
