>In SD, how would I go about assembling a patch bank that I can >export as Sysex and load into an original Wavestation? I have a few >individual >patches that I've collected would like to pluck them from other >Sysex banks and >gather them together into a new, fresh bank and load 'em up. First, make a backup of your existing internal sounds. Then, you may proceed in several ways. You could first create a new library file containing all your. Then, select all, and drag them to the Wavestation's Memory manager window and they will be loaded right then. Or, you could drag the "Greatest Hits" patches one by one into specific locations in the memeory manager, sorted by kind (bass/pad/lead/etc) and when you have a good selection, select all, and drag them back into a new library window. Once you saved this library, you can load it at any time. When you're done, simply restore your internal sounds from the backup. The beauty of SD is that it allows you enormous freedom in this respect. Hope this helps Colin

Hi, Lucien. We experienced the same problem recently. SD's adaptation cannot edit anything because it ignores the differences in SysEx implementation between ESQ-1 and ESQ-M. Take a look at our files section and try using the new ESQ-M adaptation there. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/sounddiver-users/files/ And.... Emagic crews, are you still here? Please delete ESQ-M from your "Supported models list," as it is not supported in SD 3.04, and make some efforts to lead users to relevant information.. .. Subject: WISH: Adaptation Rebuild Function
Message #13281
Hi, SD often crashes when making an adaptation, particularly when you're in 'Edit Adaptation' mode. It often scratches the adaptation file when crashing. (My Mac OS 9.1 is quite stable except when SD is not running.) Sometimes the displayed parameters are all correct. To my eye, it should work, but the damage is done insidiously. In such cases, there's no other way than to build it again. So my wish is: Please add a rebuild function to make a new adaptation file based on the (visible) parameters of the old file. Then we won't have to do it manually to enter the parameters all over again. I believe you, Emagic, have experienced the same problems, so it will be helpful for you too. Regards, Sealed

Subject: MKS-70 adaptation's problems
Message #13283
Hi, Below is what I'm troubled about SD's Roland MKS-70 adaptation. 1) MKS-70 adaptation has no object for "VCF KEY FOLLOW" parameter. Thus, higher keys sound harsh while lower keys thin. I added a slider and set the memory offset to 38, speculating from MKS's messages. Seemingly it's working, but I'm not sure as I have no manual. 2) When I move sliders on SD, MKS sometimes respond accordingly, but sometimes not. (My MKS's ROM version is v1.04, so it's capable of SysEx control.) 3) As I reported before, you can't enter space in PATCH name. Parameter range has to be fixed. I hope Emagic correct the problems 1 and 3, and for the time being label the MKS-70 adaptation as "Beta" in their "Supported Models List." I always strike "Command+T" to transmit the whole tone data, as the parameter change often fails. If you know something about it to ameliorate this, please let me know. Thanks in advance. Sealed

Thank you very much for your information, Toby. I read the page you cited, and it's a great resource for JX. But it reads that ROM above v1.02 will do to edit via SysEx, so to my eye, mine (v1.04) seems to work.... "Software engineers at Roland corrected this problem on the MKS-70 rackmount version and MIDI SYSEX parameters are fully editable via MIDI SYSEX messages from a computer if you have an MKS-70 ROM IC set greater than v1.02." Yours is v1.06, and working fine with SD? Maybe I'll have to consider contacting Roland.... Sealed > You need to update your ROMs to v1.06/1.08. Thanks for your help, Hallvard. I'm living in Japan and maybe I'll ask Roland if they offer me the ROM for free as Roland US does. I read your post. I only have MKS-70 and not JX-8P, but if you can specify the problem more, I may be able to contribute something by editing the JX adaptation with my Mac. If you email me (click on my name), I can send you the updated mks-70 adaptation I gave to M Hayden a while ago. I had rom 1.04 - only one patch can be edited, not both. My adaptation makes it easy to swap them. Yes, I got mine for free here in Norway. I don't know if it's common policy to do this, but I argued that other MKS-70 users on the net had said that Roland does this for free, so I guess this convinced the guy I talked to. I had to send them my existing EPROM chips (all 3), which they erased and re-programmed with the new version (1.08, which is the latest one for the MKS-70). Anyway, if it doesn't work out I can help you with the EPROM data image files so you can burn your own copies or have someone else do it for you if you don't have an EPROM programmer (it's probably easier to find someone with an EPROM programmer than the EPROM data for the MKS-70!!). As for the MKS-70 Sounddiver adaption.... It's been a while since I've used it, but I do remember that I downloaded a new, improved adaption (from Emagic's website?). On my Atari ST I've identified them with different file sizes: -old, original adaption: 12 279 bytes -new, improved adaption: 276 616 bytes >I read your post. I only have MKS-70 and not JX-8P, but if you can specify >the problem more, I may be able to contribute something by editing the >JX adaptation with my Mac. Thanks! I've asked all around and it's nice to see someone who will help :-) Here's the situation: The original JX-8P adaption only lets you dump one sound ("tone" as Roland puts it) at a time. Very cumbersome as you have to copy/paste the dump 32 times into the librarian window for a whole bank of sounds. Another librarian I have for the Atari ST, which also handles the JX-8P will receive all 32 sounds, so I knew this was technically possible. So a while back I did get help from a fellow Sounddiver user to make the profile receive 32 sounds after each other. Actually we experimented a bit as he came up with different versions of the profile. Some worked better than others. Anyway, I now have a profile that works just like it should as far as I can see, with one exception: it no longer "audits" the sounds from the synth (by this I mean that whenever a sound is selected in sounddiver, the MIDI sysex data should be temporarily sent to the synth, then playing a key so you can hear that particular sound). This worked fine in the original adaption. (to be precise, it actually still sends MIDI note data to the synth, but it doesn't send the sysex data from the sound chosen, but rather plays a note using the sound which is currently selected in the synth). So what i need fixed is the ability to make it audit sounds again, like it should and originally did. I've uploaded the new adaption which can handle 32 sounds at once, but won't audit sounds properly here: http://home.c2i.net/st_hall/new_jx8p_adaption.zip Hallvard -- Notator/Creator SL : <http://www.notator.org>; Atari Launchpad : <http://launchpad.atari.org>;

Is this the same one which I mentioned in my posting sized at 276 616 bytes? I believe I donwloaded it from Emagic's Sounddiver page a while back, but can't really remember. It's wayyyyyyy larger than the original one which I got with the program itself, at around 12 Kbytes, so there's bound to be some improvements. >I use windows by the way, not sure if that makes any difference I don't think so. I use the Atari ST version and it works fine here, but I had to install the original one first, then replace it with the new profile. By just putting the profile in the Sounddiver folder, then accessing it, the program crashed. Perhaps this just happens in the Atari ST version. But in any case it seems to work fine. Hallvard, there is no parameter definition for the Single Dump "Tone" bankdriver defined in your new adaptation. Did you make a mistake by putting these in the "Outgoing Single Dump (op..." driver? By the way, I don't no what "Outgoing Single Dump (op..." exactly does. Also make sure that menu "Options>AutoAudition" is checked (at least Windows has this option). Greetings, Bert Keizer.

Subject: I want to organise my TR-Racks instruments into categories.
Message #13297
I use my TR-Rack with Logic. It is very cool being able to select the patches by name from within Logic. All the patches are scattered and I want them grouped into instrument categories eg drums, pianos, basses etc. I have been told that trinitro can do this. It is a PC only app and I am on a mac. I am thinking of going to a freinds house who has a PC and doing this once and for all. But I then thought that maybe soundiver can do this. If anyone has successfully rearranged the patches in the TR-Rack let me know, especially if it is possible with soundiver. If I do manage to get these patches grouped how would I get the names in Logic reorganised in the case of using soundiver and the other case of using trinitro. Maybe someone has a PCG with this already done that I could dump with soundiver to my TR-Rack. Roman.

It'll audition combis & patches out of the regular banks but, when I pick a patch out of the moss bank S the keyboard responds and you can play that patch on it but it won't audition.... __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Hi Roman, This is easily done in SD. I'm not at my music computer at the moment and its a while since I did this, but from (hazy) memory: 1. Receive all Programs in to SD. 2. Build a library from those programs 3. This is the hazy bit - SD copies the 'Category' parameter in each program in to the comments field so you can now sort the library by comment ("bass" first followed by... I can't remember but you get the idea). 4. Select all within the library and the drag across to the program A001 slot in the TR device window. SD should now transmit all programs to the TR in the newly sorted order. This may take quite a while. Voila! If this doesn't work let me know. I'll be back in the studio tomorrow and can check exactly what the procedure was. hth Roger

I'm not sure about these things as I got help from someone else to edit the adaption (the Atari ST version is bugged and prevents me from doing certain changes). But.... perhaps I've completely missed something as part of the problem may be the setup of Sounddiver and/or the synth. I just installed the new MKS-70 adaption recently introduced here, and with that synth as well, when I select different patches, only the current one in the synth is played! In other words: the patch doesn't change on the synth. So I suspected my setup in Sounddiver to be incorrect. But then I tried out my Yamaha TX-802 and everything worked as expected there (when I select a patch in Sounddiver, the complete patch is transmitted and played on the synth). Is there something in particular I should keep in mind with the synths' MIDI setup? Program change? Anything else? This is getting rather confusing.
