Would be countless complaints about MotU interfaces be enough evidence?
Problems that went away when using a simple SoundBlaster card?
You're right about the hardware being really good and the drivers being
crappy. But guess who writes those drivers? It's MotU, not Emagic. It might
partly have something to do with MotU being mostly a Mac company (and in
fact on the Mac those interfaces work quite good). Their Windows drivers
were notoriously flakey, though. I don't know if this has changed for the
recent line of products.

I guess I will just use my M-Audio Audiophile. Has anyone tried the
Roland A-880? Does it work well? Or another 8x8 that excludes the AMT8
(I don't care for the AMT8).

Are you guys talking about the MOTU MidiTimepiece AV? If so, I threw mine
out the window after 100 lockups or so. Heck, the thing would lock itslef
up even when every cable was disconnected but power. I don't think they are
all like that, but I will never use a MOTU MIDI interface again after that
experience. *shiver*
OMS emulator has opened the "REASON" door to my Digital
Performer, but closed my Sound Diver Door!!!
Is anyone using OMS emulator successfully with Sound Diver?
Thanks.

In theory, SoundDiver's Pro200 module should already support the Orbit3,
because it's basically a Proteus 2000 with different sound ROMs.
However, we have not been able to test it because we don't have an
Orbit3 device here at emagic.
Maybe Rob Papen (designer of the Orbit 3 sounds) is reading this, I
remember him being subscribed to this list as well. If so, Rob, what are
your experiences - I know you're using SoundDiver a lot?

Blame the dealer, not us. From our side, every AMT8 comes with a
power supply, user manual, two cables, CD and registration card.

Yes, a driver issue. The driver is by MOTU, not us.

Same thing re the power supply here too. Actually it came from the national
distributor with no PS. Derringers happily fixed me up with one though.
Also, one of the rack ears was a bit bent. (i think it must have been thrown
from the airplane as it came over Australia ;-) )
Bloody good interface though!!!

Ha! The one I ordered was from ZzSounds, must've been on the same

NeWays.. just bought another MOTU on ebay today for my road show stuff.
I'm not doing anything real complex with it anyway, so It should do for
100$
At least I hope!

Hi there.
I´m new SD, but so far ALMOST every synth in the studio is set up
right and
the request worked just fine.
As others, I¹m waiting for a XV-5050 patch, but is there a custom made
driver for the old Kurzweil 1000PX Plus module out there? No editor needed
just the setup (Master) and program request. Please help me with this old
tank!
In advance thank you for any help.

I'm afraid that this isn't quite as easy since (if I recall correctly) the
1000 series had variable sized dumps which required a lot of work. So I
think an adaptation will not do the job.

I am using the beta module in SD 3 Mac. Why does it take 25 minutes to dump
the entire contents of the 3080 memory into SD? My JV 1080 took about 5
minutes.
Also, the JV 1080 module had a nice feature (drop down menu item) on the
performance edit page that let you insert the original patch's effects
settings into a performance. Where is the equivalent of that feature on the
3080 performance edit page?
Thanks

Hi.
I'm a Japanese musician and I recently became a SoundDiver owner. I'm
enjoying its great capabilities and began learning how to make an
adaptation.
Would someone teach me how to tweak two (or more) parameters at the same
time?
My Yamaha TG55 has two filters per one oscillator. I want to make a slider
in my adaptation that controls the cutoff frequency for both filters.
Could it be possible in an adaptation?
Thanks in advance.

Having problems with several devices in SD:
Alesis QS6.1 - Program FX are reset to a kind of 'do nothing' default state
when requesting more than one program in one go. Strangely, a small
proportion of the requested programs are unaffected - it seems to be chance
as to which programs remain unaffacted.
EMU E4k - EOS 4 unsupported, which (I assume) would explain why links get
screwed up when copying a preset.
Yamaha CS6R - several issues:
a) I had to manually install the module since nothing I try enables the scan
function to find it, despite the units display showing that it is apparently
responding to incoming midi
b) some parameters apparently unsupported by SD, eg insert fx
series/parallel routing, temporary element muting, non-standard controllers
not numbered in the controller assign pop-ups.
c) performance edit - parts whose receive channel is set to "off"
(the only
way of muting a part) still receive on channel 1, this despite the fact that
the unit's display also reads 'off'.
d) voice edit - enable a previously disabled element (by selecting a
waveform other than "000 - Off"), store, recall the voice on the
unit itself
and that same element has reverted to "off".
Korg TR-Rack - it's perhaps unfair to point the finger at SD on this one but
twice now the TR has frozen while receiving a bulk dump from SD and each
time has had to be 'reset' by a service agent at some cost.
SD3.04
QuickSilver G4 733
MacOS 9.22
Unitor8 Mk1 via Stealth port
All above problems observed with and without OMS and with/without Autolink
I should say that:
a) I like SD in general a lot and it works very well with other devices that
I have
b) I value Michael H's support and good grace within this user group very
highly, not to mention other module and adaptation authors
c) I appreciate that SD is not a high volume product and probably needs a
fair amount of work to keep it anything like up to date
d) Some of my problems may well have simple solutions
But. Three of the modules/adaptations for the five synths that I use for
live work are sufficiently crippled to make them next to useless for
preparing and archiving my keyboard setup so SoundDiver really isn't working
for me at the moment.
Michael has intimated that SD isn't a major revenue generator for Emagic and
the Apple buyout and the apparent recent integration of some SD code within
Logic might suggest that there is some doubt over its long term future.
Might I make so bold as to suggest that SD is currently underpriced and
should probably be sold on a subscription basis in order to remain a viable,
ongoing product.
Regards to all,
Roger

The TG77 module has a button to "Link Filters" so you can do
exactly
that. *IF* the TG55 module has the same function it'd save you the
trouble of making an adaptation.
Yet another vote for X-Key authorization of Sound Diver. I realize that this
could be a tough decision, and may create some tension amoung the Sound
Diver users who don't wan't to have a dongle, but if you are moving forward
with the X-Key for all other products, why not include it in Sound Diver as
well.
CD Authorization is not without its problems. I just had to send my CD back
to
get a replacement CD because it stopped working in my Mac.

Thank you very much for your reply.
In fact, the TG55 adaptation doesn't have the "Link Filters"
function
like the TG77 module.
(though I very much hope it had)

I really meant the speed, it is so slow for me. And I guess
we need an updated module to work with new SRX cards (I got
the new Supreme Dance SRX card and would like to be able to
easily edit the rhythm kits to create my own).
I have a Korg Triton-Rack but haven't used SoundDiver too much
with it, I guess I should check that out.

It is possible by creating an envelope object with a single dot
(which results in an x/y joystick object), with the x axis connected
to cutoff 1 and the Y axis connected to cutoff 2. Currently there is
no other way to create a macro / easy page object in adaptations.

There's another feature I know virtually nothing about cos I've never
used it, but AFAIK you can control SoundDiver parameters with MIDI
controllers. Maybe you could control both filters with the same
controllers? Anyone know more about this?
Hello
to be fair the K1xxx family needs a midi handshaking
in the SD module .. promised long time ago and never
implemented :-(
i am begging Michael since years :-))
cos i have 2 k1200 pro I ... amazing machines !
i even offer to borrow one to emagic ...
as desperate as i was .. opss .. am !:-)

The "Link Filters" switch is a feature of the SoundDiver SY77
module,
not of the TG77. It is currently not possible to create such a switch
with an adaptation.

We used to use PolyFrame, SD's predecessor on Atari. If I remember
correctly, PolyFrame cost several hundred UK Pounds and came with *one*
module only, with possibly the purchaser specifying which one. Additional
modules cost something like GBP50. Altogether, a much more sensible idea
from Emagic's (nee C-Lab) perspective, and probably not a problem perhaps
for professional users. But such a pricing structure would no doubt cut
out the home/semi-pro users which is maybe why EMagic dropped it.
