Anyone have this problem:
Clicking on a preset in both the device window and the factory
window (to send it to the proteus's edit buffer) results in no
sound from the proteus. It is however receiving MIDI. Also the
preset name is reaching the proteus as this comes up in the
LCD screen of the proteus.
Have checked midi channels etc and all OK. Normal sounds in
proteus are playing OK.
Also all the red lights come on on the front of the proteus when I
send the sound. Is this supposed to happen?
Upon examining the edit parameters of the preset that I've just
sent to the proteus, the 2nd page reads:
L1 INSTRUMENT ROM: ????
0002 (not installed)
As far as requesting the sounds from the proteus: I followed
instructions as per manual, ie Device Window: "select all"
followed by "Request", and also requested preset names etc as
per instructions.
Also tried ditching preferences and starting again.
Strange because it worked ok at first and the demo worked ok.
I've tried emagic support and they were unable to put there finger
on the problem.
All other modules working OK: Wavestation, VDrums, Roland
JP8000.
Hope you can help soon

You need to set the microQ to send the knobs as SysEx in the Global
Menu (parameter is Controller Send).

Thansk Irwin. And Malte. :-) I have been trying this, trying that.
Nothing seemed to get that adaptation to work. Last night I was
tweaking some other part of my set up. I then returned to the PCM-91
adaptation. I changed the "thru" parameter and then BAMMM!!!
Suddenly
it worked. I know I have tried and tried the thru parameter, plus
many other things, without success.
If the success is due to some alignment of the stars, sunspots, thru
channels and what not, I sure would like to see the relevant
parameters as lockable. Thru seems to change with tweaks to SD.

Does anyone know of a good tutorial that would allow me to create a
temporary patch for the new Event EZ Bus midi controller. I have
Sound diver and thought I might use it as a fillin until event get a
Logic patch sorted.
As it turns out, the default bank select worked fine. I know I tried
all kinds of thru channel, device #, etc. combos and nothing worked.
Last night, however, I tried again a couple of thru channel settings
and suddenly all was well. Thanks for your help and work Malte. Go
get yourself a Sarotti Chocolate Truffle bar ( my favorite -- forget
that Belgian stuff! I would send you some Euros if I could, for that
candy. :-) ).

Well, just keep pressing. Sometimes it helps. Or maybe you'll find someone
with an OEM version who could order the manual for you.
>SoundDiver's obviously a great program, but as usual with such powerful

That depends. A lot of things can be found "under the hood".
However if you
stick with the more "basic" usage you'll be fine without the
manual. Which
leads me to:
>I bought it mainly as a librarian/patch store for my Rhodes Chroma. The
>Chroma omly has a cassette tape dump facility to store banks of patches,
but
>the Chroma Cult MIDI interface allows sysex sound editing and

Now that's a coincidence (if it is, that is)! Because, the Rhodes Chroma
adaptation (not module!) was the first one I ever contributed to
SoundDiver. I probably would do things in a slightly different way today
(it's taking too much screen real estate and so on); but the basic
functionality should still work. Unfortunately my Chroma has been in the
shop for about two years now; I really miss it.
And unfortunately this very message will probably remind a few folks that
there still isn't a Chroma Polaris adaptation around which in turn will
cause a few requests and so on. And yep, the Polaris is still in the shop,
too.
>I also have a Proteus 2000 and a Roland XP-50 so SoundDiver will be
helpful
>to me, just as long as I can figure out how to use it!
Probably even more helpful than for the Chroma since both have real smooth
editing capabilities (the Chroma adaptation simply dumps its edit buffer
for each edit. Not really elegant, I know....).
>What do you use yours with?
Lotsa things. I have many instruments passing through my home for different
productions and I usually do some programming for them. Most of the time
it's just adjusting some things or setting up Combis/Multis/whatever.

Thanks Malte.
The good news is that the UK distributors have emailed me tonight offering
to supply me with an English manual. Good guys!
Once I have the manual, I may not need to ask such dumb questions as this -
What's the difference between an adaptation and a module????
Interesting that you're a Chroma owner too. I always wanted a Polaris to go
with mine, too, but they never saw the light of day in the UK. Possibly
there are a very few here, but I never saw one except in the ads in
international musicians magazines. One day, when I've got the cash to pay
for the shipping, I'd like to buy one on Ebay and ship it here from the
States, but that's a dream for now.
My own Chroma is at the engineer's just now. I'm getting it back in about 2
weeks time, then we'll see how it works with SoundDiver. I'd kinda got used
to editing the Chroma via the single slider and LED digits it has, so
this'll be a whole lot of fun (I hope!)
Thanks

Hi,
Does anyone know if the Roland HPD-15 Handsonic percussion controller is
supported? It doesn't appear in the SD v3.0 model list (on CD) and the
Emagic web site link to current supported models is broken (Apache server
error). It hasn't been out all that long, so I guess I might get one of
those "You are the first that asks" responses from Michael!
(Michael,
If it's not supported at present, are there any plans to add this?)
One last thing. I'm looking at buying one of these soon, as I'm fed up
with drum programming from midi keyboards and although not a drummer, I'm
fairly nifty at tapping! Has anyone tried the HPD-15 (or any other
percussion controller)? What did you think of it? Another good solution
might be gloves with transducers built in so you could tap on any
nice-sounding object. Anyone heard of such a device?
TIA,
Regards,
Will Thomson,

Hey fellows!
I've been a Polaris user (no Chroma) for almost 15 years now. In fact I have
two of them. I would be very interested to hear of any type of SD adaptation
breakthrough for the Polaris. If you hear anything, please let me know. I'll
certainly do likewise for you.

Craig Beaumont

Did you download the Triton rack SD module from the Emagic website? It's not
included in the software updates, you must download the module by itself.

How have you made out with the GR33? Are you using a sound module as well.
If yes are you daisy chaining it into your system or using a midi
patchbay/interface?

You can do it all from there. I just worked on my GR yesterday for
the 1st time in months. The bulk dump FROM your GR33 is required
only initially, to load your sounds into SD. From there it behaves
like other synths. One or many sounds can be downloaded to the GR at
a time. No bulk dump required.
You can play (with your GR guitar, I haven't been able to get sounds
to automatically trigger) the edited sound while you're working in
the editor and hear your changes, as the edited sound is loaded in a
special temporary patch location or edit buffer on the GR. You need
to save your changed patch to a memory location in SD. And you can
rearrange patch order, etc. I think you need to manually transmit
patches back to the GR.
To satisfy yourself, go change some patches, then go back into play
mode on your GR and you should notice all your changes are there.
And its so much nicer than crouching down on the floor alternating
button presses with guitar playing...:-)

Is there a way that I can assign via Key command or otherwise a midi
remote command that is equivalent to the up and down arrow keys in a
library and device windows. I want to do this to be able to scroll throw
patches by using a midi control on the controller keyboard (such as the
breadth controller assigned to the downward joysticks of a korg
keyboard) when audition patches so that I don't have to keep jumping
back to the PC keyboard to audition the next patch. I do not see key
commands listed for the Up and Down arrows in the key command setup
window. If not can this be added easily? It would be a great help.
While were at it how about a library files window or a flip menu to
choose associated library files associated with a particular synth I am
starting to amass a nice collection of library files and would be great
to be able to access then without going to file open, searching for the
directory and then opening each time. Sort of a library of libraries
window I guess.
Thanks,
Don
Thanks for asking, the only thing I can achieve is to get a bulk dump of the
patches and I guess all the other system info but otherwise it won't
communicate with SD. I have a number of other devices that SD is
controlling, D70, JV1080, POD, Korg A2, all connected through a Unitor8 and
working fine. The GR33 is connected directly to the Unitor and it works
fine with Logic, i.e. sends and receives controller messages and it works as
a controller for my other synths and software synths. It just doesn't work
with Sounddiver. One thing that is strange about it is that it doesn't have
a selectable device ID and I suspect the problem might be related to that
somehow. Jon

Apart from the 'controller assignments' are the improvements to SD3 mostly
graphic in nature?
I'm interested in upgrading, but not if it's mostly just eye-candy
improvements.
Can anyone tell me where it's at?

Hey,
New to this group...been using SD for a little over 2 years and I
LOVE it. I have a JP-8000, JV-2080, MKS-50 and today I got the
new XV-5050. I saw that there wasn't an official 5050 driver, so I
downloaded the 5080/3080 beta and 'added' it to my list of
synths.
Things I can do with it:
Request user patches.
Edit user patches.
Things I can't do with it:
Request programs
Edit programs
Edit system
Edit front panel
XV.dll crashed when I tried to 'request all'.
When sending a patch into the edit buffer, it takes almost 30
seconds...on my 2080 it takes something like 1 second. It's like
whenever I try to select a patch, it transmits the patch's sysex
instead of the program change...maybe I'm doing something
wrong?
At NAMM the guy demoing it showed a beta version of a graphic
editor which would have similar features to SD...maybe we'll be
using this for the 5050, and SD for the rest of our studio?
Take care
Nick White
This sounds like SoundDiver doesn't know the correct OS version number
of your Proteus 2000. Please check if the OS version number shown in the
parameter box of SoundDiver's setup matches the number displayed on your
Proteus 2000 on startup. If it doesn't match, you will have to delete
the Proteus 2000 from your SoundDiver setup and re-scan it. Be aware
that you _have_to_ add your Proteus 2000 to the SoundDiver setup by
using the Scan function - manually adding it will not work because
SoundDiver can't communicate correctly with the P2K if it doesn't know
its OS version.
Another thing you have to make sure is that your Proteus 2000 has at
least version number 1.05, because versions below that are not supported
at all by SoundDiver.

- Jens

Generally speaking, why not let the user to decide what OS version
the unit has? I for myself never use the scan function. Only for a
first setup this is (sadly) necessary to determine the OS version and
get patches and so on. For users who don't have a dedicated midi-
patchbay with plenty midi-ins and outs, this function could be akward
to use. Each time swapping cables is no fun.

Get me the docs and I'll see if it is possible. If it is possible maybe we
can make a deal: You get me the HPD-15 for maybe a week, and I get you and
adaptation.

Generally speaking this functionality would be possible. However, it's
not on me to implement it, because it would be a SoundDiver
functionality, not a module-specific one. I.e., something for Michael...
In case of the P2K, you will have to request the ROM instrument names
from the device anyway (I can't hard-code them into the module, because
new ROMs I don't know of yet might be released in the future), so you
might as well scan it automatically...

Yea, I did talk to them, they couldn't figure it out while on the phone so
they asked me to send them an email and said they would look into it
further......That was 2 months ago. Jon
P.S. If your thinking about using the GR for an input device for midi
programming you'll be disappointed. No matter how cleanly you play, it
records not only the note you intended but also any sympathetic harmonics
that might start ringing. Plus the slightest hint of vibrato shows up as
pitch bend data and there is also a lot of volume data that gets in there.
The end result being that each note carries a lot of midi info with it. If
you try editing in the event list editor you probably pass out. I'm now
thinking about a Starrlabs Ztar.
