Does anyone know where I could find a PAD-8 adaptation? If one can't
be found I'm willing to take a shot at writing one myself if that's
what it takes.
Is there anything I should know before I start writing an adaptation
for the PAD-8? For instance, can I simply edit and "dumb-down" the
existing PAD-80 adaptation? Are there any particular thorny issues I
should watch out for?
Thanks in advance,
James

I'd certainly be interested! And the money I'd save on hardware (i.e.
being able to use cheap PC stuff instead of Apple) would easily enable
me to pay for it.
There is an adaptation for the R-5, but there is no way to edit the
parameters (due to the lack of an editor). Is anyone aware of plans
to write editors for this adaptation, or should I roll-up my sleeves
and begin writing my own?
If I resort to writing my own, is anyone aware of particular issues
with the R-5 that I should watch out for?
Thanks again (in advance),
James

Well James, i can't help ( i can't get on with the programming side) but
as an R5 owner, i'd be interested in a copy.

Yeah, that would be the most logical approach if the SPX is pretty much
stationary in a studio rack. Mine also gets hauled around all over the
place in a guitar rig, where a Bradshaw switching system changes presets
on the various processors, and daisy-chains all MIDI gear. I s'ppose I
could make sure the SPX is last in the chain.
If you happen to bump into that SOS article it might be lovely if you
could give me a quick shout. But I guess for now maybe I'll just open
that baby up and look for the big toggle switch. Might be
straightforward enough.

Thanks for all the response and assistance. To answer a few of Jens'
questions,
SD3.0 is my first version of SoundDiver, and I upgraded my P2K software to
v2.21 before I got SD3.0, so
I don't know about any other combinations, although I've heard of many
people with old SD's as well as
SD3.0 having no problems with original P2K.
I've also heard of people having problems with SD3.0 and P2K v1.21 (2nd
upgrade from original, 2.21 is 3rd),
although the manifestations are different than mine. These people have
posted on P2K user groups, also on
yahoo groups.
One other thing I have in common with Cyril is the MOTU MTP-AV, just for
your benefit. One cannot adjust
the SysEx speed of it, however. Also the P2K's SysEx Packet Delay feature is
for transmission of SysEx, not
reception of it, so it's irrelevant here.
I also think the MTP-AV has nothing to do with it because my Pro/Cussion
module talks to SD3.0 with no problems.

Mark Mitchell
Hi EXS24 Users!
We´ve just opened a Downloads section on our Website providing some
free
Sample Instruments for our beloved EXS Sampler :-)
It contains some electronic Drum & Percussion Kits and multisampled
Synth
Waveforms. Since the sample files are in WAV format, they can of coarse be
used in any other sampler or application as well. :-)
So have a look and come back from time to time, cause as soon we have some
new interesting material we´ll put it there.

>>although there even *was* a complete
German customization for instance and they did withdraw everything and
promised to continue developing BeOS.
Did you mean there was German customization of Logic for BeOS? I wasn't
sure what you meant. Was Logic for BeOS nearly finished? (not that it
matters now!)
I suppose it's fair to say that BeOS is a "hobbyist" OS now -
simply
because there is no major backing from software developers. The number of
users is probably pretty small. A lot of people on the Be sites debate
what a "living" and "dead" OS is. I suppose if it meets
your needs, that's
good, but if there's no one who believes it is worth investing in then it
cannot grow and will fade into obscurity.
However, I don't think Be, Inc. 's story is over yet. Look at this article
by Scot Hacker (Byte magazine) about BeIA at
CES: http://www.byte.com/column/BYT20010125S0002 If Be is able to gain
some success with BeIA, I doubt that they will abandon BeOS entirely. The
question is if Be, Inc. is able to give it attention before it is entirely
overshadowed by MacOS X for instance. There are upcoming updates for
OpenGL and BeOS networking, whether this will be combined into a major
point release with other goodies, who knows - (there's all that other
rumored stuff like Java, Opera 4, etc.) - will it be too little too
late? Be, Inc. bet the company for BeIA, just to survive maybe, but they
may have frightened so many developers that they ended up killing BeOS.
However, if you look at www.bebits.com there is life. Obviously these
developers don't have the resources of major software companies, and it's
true that many of the offerings are geek-ware or gadgets - but there are
really a lot of incredible efforts going on. It shows incredible devotion
on the part of BeOS fans, as Scot Hacker mentions in his article. A lot of
people, (maybe foolishly) think this is an OS worth waiting for!

Sorry Francis for not making this 100% clear. What I meant was a German
translation of BeOS. This was a "funny" thing, because just some
weeks
before it was available, everyone has speculated that BeOS was dead and
Be tried to show that they are still in...
I am sincerely sorry that BeOS did not get attention due to a lack of
professional support, because it definitely was _the_ OS!
Cheers

If you want the E4 load a specific bank from its hard disk, record
SoundDiver's output while you click a bank name in the Catalog editor
window (with the "AutoLoad" option enabled). This is just a short
SysEx command.

SoundDiver 3.0.2 will work without the gPort/Stealth extension and
will use the existence of such a driver only for the default

hi
I just received my update(hiey!).
The program has scanned my set-up and found my Unitor 8 mkII,my O1 w and
my triton pro,it requested the data from all units with success except
for the Triton.
With this unit the request takes a very long time and seems to be always
importing bank A of the programs(at least that is what I see on the
unit) and after 10 minutes or so,it stops and I have no data in the module.
What is wrong?
Thanks

>I'm having problems finding out how to send sound data from my Roland

>I've been able to dump data from/to the JX-8P using other librarians,
Really?, which ones.
I've been using diver for years and have gotten used to this behavior
from my 8p
I have to dump everything one sound at a time, and each dump has to be
initiated from the 8p's front panel.
I can get my libraries to dump from computer to 8p. this works pretty
well.
so I'm basically using diver as a back up.
with some machines you are really better off keeping clear of diver and
editing in the machine itself.
Either the adaptations aren't so well written or the synth isn't so
great at midi implementation, but as far as the 8p, I think what you are
seeing is pretty much "normal" in diver.
I'm on mac, and there is an environment in logic that edits every
parameter on the 8p.
(a sysex fader for every knob that would normally be on a pg-800. Much
more efficient than going to diver.
I took this editor and copied the sysex messages to my peavey pc1600 so
now I pretty much have a real time controller.
(not quite as good as a pg800, but it's very useful.)
can you write create/define faders in notator?
hope this helps

The "lack of professional support" was on the part of Be, Inc.,
not
developers such as emagic, Steinberg, et al. Many music-software companies
(the one that I work for included) were developing BeOS versions of our
products. Then Be announced that they were shifting their emphasis to
"internet appliances". Since it is very expensive for a company to
port
their products to a new platform like BeOS, it was difficult for us to
continue to believe that this effort would ever be worthwhile, if the makers
of the operating system itself were shifting their attention away from the
pro music market. In short, the future of the BeOS suddenly became very
unclear because of Be, Inc.'s own actions, and we shelved any further work
with it indefinitely so as to concentrate on better-established platforms.
It's a matter of limited resources, not technological superiority.
(Of course, this is just my perspective on the matter. I do not presume to
speak for emagic or any other company.)
