Subject: PCM 80 & 90 editing
Message #4026
Hi, I'm new to this list having just purchased Sound Diver for the PC. I think it is a remarkable piece of software, but I was disappointed to find that their were actually no editors for the Lexicon PCM 80 and 90. This was the primary reason I bought SD as I was tired of dropping to my knees and dealing with the cumbersome Lexicon editing structure to edit my presets. Michael Haydn, if you are reading this, is it realistic to expect editing for the PCM 80 and 90 in the reasonably near future? Thanks for your time, I appreciate it. I use the MIDI driver/connector of my soundcard and already have the latest drivers on my system. According to the Yamaha website these drivers provide "multiclient access, [meaning]that XGEDIT and VST/Cakewalk/Logic can run at the same time without the need for Hubis loopback. However [in order] to record sysex or controller data into the event list of these sequencers, you will still need to configure a Hubi pipe as with previous drivers." Does this mean that I still have to use Hubis? If so, how do I set/configure Hubis to work on my system (i.e. what midi ports are to be connected to what LBs)? > Beste Gruesse - best regards, > > Michael Haydn I would be very grateful for further help. Maybe its because its fully integrated with DP and other motu >relevant gears? Should sound diver be also built directly into logic; >perhaps in Logic 4.5x? Freemidi is more like OMS than Sounddiver. Sounddiver is a full editor/librarian and *not* midi driver software (naturally it supports emagic/mtp hardware). Don't mistake Sounddivers 'Setup' window with that of Freemidi and OMS. They serve different fuctions. Sounddiver won't be integrated into Logic because that would be like adding an additional environment to Logic - too big. What I do think would be a smart idea would be for a scaled down version of sounddiver - let's call it "E-midi" - that would replace OMS by providing users a new interface between Logic and their external gear. This has the following advantages - 1) Logic can update names of patches via Autolink with "E-midi" (which will query devices. 2) Beginning users aren't so daunted by the environment on initial setup. ie bank change messages are stored in E-midi's libraries. And Logic can querie "E-midi" on load and then setup an automatic environment to suit - therefore making it more user friendly. 3) OMS will be history - and the midi timing, as it will now depend on "E-midi" using the famous Logic Midi engine, will be that much better. 4) For those who have Sounddiver it can also naturally use "E-midi" and therefore bypass the setup on initial load - but could via autolink add new devices at will. Etc Etc. I can't think of a bad reason but naturally these features could be included into Logic only I feel that having it a separate Driver program would enable quicker adaptation with various Emagic software. Regards I haven't had the problems that you have had in Sounddiver - It's a great tool! -- Lachlan Deck ldeck@... www.applemidi.com

Message #4035
Hi folks, I'm stumped about this one. While sometimes in SoundDiver and especially when I quit the program a MIDI message is sent to the 01v that pulls fader one down all the way. I 've looked through the manual and frankly don't know what to look for. I'm using the AMT8, a K2500XS, and a Mac G3 (beige). Any ideas about what I set that might then cause this? Subject: Multi users and prefs
Message #4037
I'm looking for some advice and recommendations for multi users and SoundDiver. I have ten people working from the same workstation (Mac, K2500XS, AMT8, 01v) and have set up folders for each with separate libraries. We have had some problems with the app crashing (of course whenever I'm not around) and several times SoundDiver starts up with the opening screen and I have to rescan everything. I've figured out (I think) that if I save the preference file and open up from that on the desktop I won't lose my scanned preferences. Is this true? Can you have a separate set of preferences for each of the ten folders? Do you then need to save preferences to that folder just before quitting? Is this the best way to handle this whole situation? Any advice or suggestions is most appreciated. BTW, the warnings about saving device entries as preferences is confusing; any enlightened words of wisdom for what that means for multi users would also be welcome. Thanks to all Peter Fischer

We have announced SDL at NAMM and Musikmesse 2000. It will be part of later versions of Logic and SoundDiver, and it will provide a much nicer name providing mechanism than AutoLink is today. You will not have to take care to have matching MIDI channels, or that SoundDiver knows the MIDI channels a device is using. And you will not have to configure Logic to use the correct bank select format. You will simply see all banks in the device by name and the choose patches - that's it. You will have to disable ports in SoundDiver. This is done in the file C:WindowsWIN.INI. You will find a section "[SoundDiver JV/XP]" there with lines "MidiIn_...=1" and "MidiOut_...=1". Change all the lines, except all "MidiIn_LB...=1" and "MidiOut_LB...=1" to "...=0". Thanks Michael I believe it is a control change #1. I am in the "home" setting, so it is just the channel 1 fader. I have the the transmit and rcv channels set on 16 (AMT8 recognizes this automatically). I do have all the rcv parameters enabled because we are going to use Logic to control faders and effect sends, etc. Do you want the Control Change Assignment Table Bulk Dump Format info from the manual append. Michael Thank you, it all becomes clearer by the moment. My students are designing sounds from scratch, so, would it be best to have a generic preference (the none setting in preferences dialog box) that they all use and then just load the 200's bank (what they are doing) from their library. It means that none of the K2500's sounds are loaded in the memory manager. If I do use the prefs that store all the device's memory and the situation you described happens, is there a problem with each student sending their library (which they of course do each time) and overiding it. Could this cause crashes when done 10 or 15 times each day? Peter Fischer Michael Haydn wrote: >>snip > > An example: > > * User A has saved a patch X to location A-11.
