Because OMS is the de-facto standard for MIDI on Mac OS.
FreeMIDI is mostly used by MotU software.

I don't think there is much difference.

What does this tell you? That FreeMIDI is not a standard, as USB MIDI
interface manufacturers only provide OMS drivers.

We will not do this. FreeMIDI as well as OMS will not run on Mac OS
X, so they are outdated technologies.
It seems you think it is not possible to use OMS (which is 68k code)
together with PPC code (i.e. SoundDiver 3.0). This is not the case.
If you want to work professionally, drop both OMS and FreeMIDI and
use your G4 500 DP with Emagic interfaces...
