This is a reply to #17307.

Hello, and thanks for the reply! I do indeed find that the OMS 2.3.8 installer has put a file titled "USB OMSMIDIDriver" in the OS9 System/Extensions folder, and one called "OMS USB Manager" in the OS9 System/OMS Folder. So that appears not to be the problem. Recently I tried to do some more troubleshooting. First, to recap, I should say that my problem is that, when I am running my PowerBook G4 in Classic mode, neither SoundDiver nor OMS (nor, I find, MotU's FreeMIDI) seems to be able to see the USB port. In SoundDiver, the USB port is shown as "n/a" in the Communications Preferences. In OMS, only the "printer" and "modem" ports are shown in the dialogue boxes that allow one to choose an input/output port. FreeMIDI 1.48 doesn't see the USB port either. Here are some steps that I've tried without resolving the issue: -- I updated my SD version 3.0 to 3.0.52 -- I created a new configuration in the OS X Audio MIDI Setup that excludes my USB MIDI interface. The new configuration still includes an audio & MIDI interface that connects via Firewire, but I'm assuming that a Firewire interface configured in OS X shouldn't interfere with USB communications in OS 9. (?) -- Previously, I'd had FreeMIDI 1.48 installed in OS 9 and had been trying to run FreeMIDI and OMS 2.3.8 at the same time. When I realized this, I used the OS 9 Extensions Manager to deactivate FreeMIDI, restarted, and tried OMS again without success. -- I've tried disabling USB-related system extensions in OS 9 -- at least the ones that seem to be non-essential to the system and to my purposes -- in hopes of eliminating a conflict there. At base, it seems that something is occupying or blocking the USB port/bus so that my MIDI programs can't see it. Do I have to disable all USB software in OS X -- for example, USB printer drivers, etc. -- in order to allow OS 9 to have access to the USB port? I have MotU AudioDesk and Clockworks installed in the OS X (10.3.9) area of my computer. I do not try to run them while trying to run SD in OS 9. But do they have drivers or extensions running that are causing my problems? If anyone has ever seen that "USB port: n/a" message in the SoundDiver Communications Prefs window, please let me know how you overcame it. Many thanks! cheers, Eric
