Hi John
Thanks agian for the reply. I am infact referring to the prgram data itself
and not so much program changes. A basic scenario would be to start off with
a present performance, pick some sounds on the individual channels of the
performance. Then beable to edit the individual patches as well as the
performance, then store all that info within the song/session and be able to
continually edit both as the song progresses. No, SD is not needed just to
store sysex info, but it is much more convenient for editing the
patches/performances. Especially in real time, possibly even recording
parameter changes with the sequence (who knows).
Here's some of my findings so far:
SD won't load/store the program data for ROM sounds and will only hold one
ata
time (which is loaded into the 5080 edit buffer. This is why my libraries
are
empty, it assumes I don't want to edit them and send them to new locations.
Here is the solution I have worked out so far, but am not completely sure if
it will work yet (still researching):
Buying a smart media card and copying every patch in rom over to it. With
this
done (assuming thats possible) I will work with only the patches on the
smart
media so they are all editable.
2ndly, I my try to find a way to only send program changes for the
performances in Logic, and not the individual patches within the
performances. Then, I can use SD to edit the performances including
selecting
which patches to be used on each channel. The patch selection process within
SD for the 5080 (editing a performance) is much more pleasant than patch
selection from Logic's arrange window. With this theory, I will have a
template performance that I will start with on every sequence, then when
finished editing, i can save it from the edit buffer to a new performance
location.
Now Ideally I would be able to use the 'save logic sounds' option and it
would
save the performance data as well as the patch data for that parent
performance with it in a file in the song folder. I have yet to test much of
this so I am not sure what will and wont work. I am also unsure yet how to
set up logic to send the program change for the performance only and
autolink
to detect it for the sake of building the library.
What brough a lot of this about was actually while working on my Triton. I
used a sound for a song. What I didn't realize was that the sound was
created
by mismatched combination/patches. When I did a bulk dump to the Triton, it
fixed the problem (a problem i wasnt aware of) but deleted the patch. I
cannot find a patch/combi that can replace the one I had, nor am I adept
enough to program by ear. I want to be able to store all the data in a
library with the songs and constantly tweak the patches as I get further
intot he production of the song, even so far as the mix stage.

I think this has been discussed so I assume there is no fix for this kinda
situation like there is in cubase. If I am wrong, someone let me know!! :-)
I
also have a problem where my S6000 thinks C3 is a different octave than the
display in the matrix window. I have to look into a workaround for that too.

Definitely true, but having to continually do dumps is not as robust as
sending parameter changes in SD. Also, theoretically when a library is
stored
in the song folder, it will load those patches into the modules when the
song
is loaded. Also, I am not sure how to record sysex for just the patches used
for a particular song, and doing an entire dump on the Triton can take 2
hours for each direction.

Until now I have had access to many 5080s at once so they would all operate
in
patch mode and not performance. This allowed each to use its own FX. For
that
I set up a multi attached to a single instr. for each 5080. The multi to
store the Patch names, and the singles do I didn't have sub menus for each
5080. Now that my situation has changed I may need to re organize my
enviornment to better utilize it. Working with both patches and performances
on the same module on the same song confuses me. Hopefully I will get the
hang of it soon.
Can it be done so I just play the track with the data and the patches AND
performances are loaded/selected so the song can be played correctly after
that? Thanks!

Hehe, but how?? :-) I'm a dummy with Sysex recording.

You have been a big help and I really appreciate it! I feel like I am
starting
all over again now and it's pretty fun (though frustrating).

It has always been one of my favorites. I really want to try out the SRX-05
though and haven't seen it anywhere yet. I don't really have much intention
of using the Sampler end though since I have an S6000 which I absolutely
love. And, any idea what size Smart media card I would need to compy the
entire internal memory of the 5080, and maybe have some space to spare for
additional patches/performances? Or better yet, is there a site that
explains
all the details of using the smart media with a 5080?
Thanks again!
