I've been staring at my full cart all morning! :) Any idea how big a difference the 8-core (vs. 4-core) will mean in terms of Logic and AU plugins? I still can barely play a 4 note chord in the new Native Instruments Massive synth on my Dual 1Ghz G4. How much faster would the 8-core be? Dyin' over here, Aaron

Mind you, $5,000 is allot of cash. That would be a 8 core, and 4 gig of ram, with a 500 gig drive. Forget all the cards that require being upgraded to PCI-e Time to start saving... Apple do this all the time though- just before they make a huge leap they put out a teaser. Remember the G5's with PCIE slots? Just before the MacIntels. I am betting this is going to be a teaser for *something else* soon to come- maybe at NAB. At least a price drop- I don't spend $5k on anything except outboard these days. If they get it to $3500 then I'll be tempted to jump to MacIntel - and all the trouble that it entails- HD card upgrades or expansion chassis. For the moment, the 2ghz G5 with 4gb of ram is doing just fine. Jim

On some of the 3d rendering programs there was as much a jump as 3x faster.

I am really tempted to break my piggy bank and replace my G5 2X5 with one of the new 8 cores there is going to be another breakthrough later this year when intel ship the new 45nm Penryn chips which will allow basic clock speeds to go up as well as the speed of the bus so as bad as I want an 8 core right now I think I am going hang on a bit more and wait for the ones with the new chips even though Apple has not said a word about when or if they would be shipping CPUs with the Penryns in them.
