Subject: LAG Two tips and a question
Message #12040
Two little Christmas tips (some of you may be aware of these and may even have used them before me!). Tip 1: When recording audio, note the exact start position of the first note / sound in the audio object and write it down. Highlight all the wasted space that occurs before it including any grotty noise that may be present (especially found in an overdriven or noisy guitar note) and delete it. Now highlight the audio object in the arrange window and change the event to start exactly at the point previously noted. You can also delete all the wasted space that occurs after the last note / sound. I always do this to my master audio objects, and then use set regions for anything that is repeated but shorter etc. Tip 2: Record midi bass guitar. A lot of these sound very 'soapy' and lifeless. No matter. Re-route the midi output of the midi instrument through the Pod and back in to an audio track and mute all other midi objects except the bass guitar part, (NB It doesn't seem to work with solo for some peculiar reason). Play the midi bass track and select the required Pod sound. Then, load the track into Sound Forge or similar and set EQ. I used a picked bass (Roland) and then made some small cuts between 125 - 500 Hz and 20dB boost at 2k and 3.5k boost at 8k. I got a lovely sound with that, sounds just like the real thing, and with perseverance you can get far better results than any plugin. believe me! You can also use this method for drums. You can get rather a nice natural garage type sound if you take the time. PS you may need to use noise reduction with some of the results Question(s) If you use tip 2, why does the solo feature not work? In other words if you select the bass part and then hit solo, why can you not route this to an audio track and record it? Also, is there a way to globally mute in the arrange window? It's quicker to mute all then unmute one than to mute all one by one. Phil Press the 'any' key to continue
