Subject: Logic not recognizing usb instruments
Message #226790
I'm running the latest version of logic with a cme uf7 controller and novation xiosynth, both can control the MIDI in logic perfectly via MIDI inputs in my midisport 4x4 but I want to use both (especially the xiosynth th0 with USB. I know the USB function works as it powers both keyboards up, but logic will not recognize any MIDI information. It also doesn't have MIDI in so sequencing data from logic into the xiosynth seems impossible without me using the USB function. Any ideaS? A

In an earlier post I said the USB cable supplied with CME has a different plug. That's correct, but since a few minutes ago I found out why Logic does not receive midi in messages when using the cable supplied with my MOTU fastlane midi interface. Yesterday I bought a USB extension cable, as the CME cable is too short for my setup. After having played the first few notes, Logic Express does not receive any data anymore. This kind of behaviour does not occur when using a smaller cable together with the extension cable. And today I found out that the fastlane usb cable is even longer. No wonder that Logic Express did not receive any midi message. So if you're using a longer cable than the one supplied with the CME, this could be causing your problems.

Hi Ali, two important questions: 1. does your CME appear in the audio/midi configuration of OSX? (programs>utilities) If not: you did not install the CME driver or did install it the wrong way. 2. do you use the cable supplied with the CME? This one is rather short, so I another one. I had the same problems like you until I discovered that the plug to insert in your CME differs from the USB cables commonly used in Europe. USB stands for Universal Serial Bus, but forget about the universal.... About the different USB-plug: I'm quite willing to prove it to all non-believers with a pic of the CME plug and pics from my other USB plugs. Just send me an e-mail.
