You might want to make sure Tascam has intel drivers for it yet...
they seem to be a little slow about their drivers being updated.

I own a Tascam 1804 and I'm using it on Logic 7.23 .on a MacBook pro CoreDuo
2g Ram/OS
10.4.8 running fine.
I'm loving it.
I average 16 to 24 chanels of audio instruments both Logic's own and third
party and 16
channels of audio with plugins and no issues or problems with latency.
If I had the bucks would have bought the 1884
Buy the thing fast
Just dowload the drivers on Tasam site.

Scott I don¹t have an Intel Mac, but we do have a Tascam FW-1884.
I often recommend it to people who are looking for the features it
offers the control surface works well with Logic, the preamps,
converters, and MIDI interface make a convenient bundle. It¹s just
a bit bulky if that is an issue.

Scott,
I have an FW1884 and MacPro. They both work fine. Drivers for the
FW1884 were available long ago, and also work well.
Absolutely no problems here. It's a good board with the MacPro.

I think I saw another post confirming the Intel drivers. Apparently they
have had them for a while. Of course, your suggestion makes sense - the
poster should confirm this for themselves.

I used to own one, and liked it. As already commented, it's pretty
big, and I sold it due to this.
Happy to hear the drivers are working fine.. I seemed to have a
number of issues related to firewire and the G5 (cold only use 1 FW
device at once), which are solved with the latest generation Macs,
apparently.
Good luck,
