Subject: [LUG] "External instruments" in Logic Express
Message #224203
Hello, Everybody I'm just about to buy a MacBook and Logic Express. I found one thing about Express that concerns me: what does it mean that this version of Logic (in opposition to Pro) lacks "external instruments" feature? (The comparison between the two found on Apple web-site has this option unmarked in the Express' column) What comes to mind is: a) no ability to sequence external hardware synths (like my Korg Wavestation A/D for example), or b) no ability to sequence external software synths (like Wavestation from Korg's Legacy Collection). From discussions on Vintage Synth Explorer forums, I got information that above alternatives are not true and it's possible to control both hard and soft synths with Logic Express sequencer... If so - I have no idea what it can mean. If anyone does - please let me know! Thank You in advance, Marcin

An external compressor, reverb or synth can be treated as a a plugin in Logic's audio mixer. Comes in handy for a mixerless studio. > What comes to mind is: a) no ability to sequence external > hardware synths (like my Korg Wavestation A/D for example), or > b) no ability to sequence external software synths (like > Wavestation from Korg's Legacy Collection). No, I've been using Express and I have a rack of outboard synths, no problem sequencing or setting up. As for software synths, if the plugin is AU compatible you can use it in Express, no limitation there. Howard
