Subject: VST vs DirectX? (was: VST Adapter Offer for Logic Users)
Message #2594
Brings up a good newbie question, if y'all don't mind: what exactly are the advantages of VST plugins over DirectX, other than the fact taht you can find free ones on the net? Any why is that, BTW? > > From: Angus Hewlett <angus@a...> > > > > Advertisement:- > > > > A lot of PC users on this list have been asking for VST support in Logic > > recently. Any why is that, BTW? Advantages:- - automatable (VST Adapter _doesn't_ support this feature yet, because it's an "un-automatable" DirectX plug-in, but we figured out a way around that and are working on it...) - a great deal easier to code (which is why you find more free ones - DirectX really is an unnecessarily complex API for audio plug-ins) - smaller and more CPU efficient VST2.0 has a whole host more advantages, relating to synths and time synchronisation matters, but until either VST Adapter or LAMP supports it fully it's OT here :-) Regards, Angus.
