Hi All,
I read the thread concerning "noise" from G5 power supplies and
the
like... My noise issue has similar symptoms but different causes, I think.
I have a PowerBook G4 1.67GHz (2 Gigs of RAM), an m-audio audiophile
firewire audio interface, a Lacie Porsch 160Gig drive & a 75 Gig
Ikebana firewire drive...
My Problem: When these drives spin up or down, I can hear it loud &
clear though my monitors... If I mute the audio coming out of the
m-audio interface, the hum goes away.
This sound is something I "tune out" as I'm working, but it's
annoying.
Is it the price you pay for a cheap firewire analog/digital io box? Or
is there a way I can minimize this/eliminate it?
I use shielded cables and try to keep my electric cables away from my
audio cables but, this may not be what's causing the problem...
Anybody else using the m-audio audiophile and NOT having this problem?
Any feedback would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Hi Charlie,
I have the LaCie FW drive...and it is dead quiet...I would try running only
with that
drive, and turn off the Ikebana one...I suspect that one is it.If it is...you
should replace it,as
the FW ground is not done correctly on the case, and it will end up failing
before the LaCie.
Otherwise, turn off the LaCie drive, and if that one is causing the
noise,replace that one
instead.
Cheers
Nick
