I _think_ that VMR on Windows just kills the currently running Audiowerk
driver and installs its own driver. If you exit VMR the own driver is
removed and the Audiowerk is "re-initialized". But in fact there
is a dead
Audiowerk driver in the background! This may be the reason why it is _not_
recommended to use VMR to "re-initialize" the Audiowerk...
