I had a noise coming from my Mac which was a ground loop noise. My G5 causes it. If I unplug my USB connection to my sampler it goes away. I also have my computer powered via an old builders isolation transformer. The noise could be described as a buzz and crackling that also reacts to hard drive activity and moving the mouse. Maybe you have an earth loop causing your noise? Roman.

The full story is here: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum†523 And if the above url is mangled by the online forum, copy and paste the url below and remove the space between = and 86523: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum= 86523 Maurits.

But it was a PITA to get the service provider and Apple on the same page. JP

Your symptoms are EXACTLY the same as mine. I found the only way to get rid of the noise was to unplug the audio cables from my Yamaha Motif that I use as my mother keyboard. I am not sure that the Motif was 'generating ' the noise, but maybe it was causing the Ground loop? I now have perfect silence, but I am unable to use the internal sounds of the motif .... an expensive mother keyboard now!! Richard =)

I went through as many of the procedures suggested in the article as I could understand =), and didn't find that I had the problem that they outlined. So I bought new cables for my HR824 speakers, and re did all the wiring. During this process I managed to isolate where all the noise was coming from. All the noise was coming from my Yamaha Motif keyboard, which I use as my mother keyboard! It was only when I disconnected the two audio cables from the back of my Big Knob from the Yamaha that all the unwanted noise disappeared. I had not done this previously, only turned the keyboard OFF, as I was tunnel visioned into thinking the noise was coming from the Mac. This has solved the problem, but leaves me with a situation where I cannot use the Yamaha's internal sounds as they are so noisy - this is far from the end of the world as my sound library is extensive, but it is a little disappointing that all I have now is a very expensive mother keyboard. Thanks again for your help!!

It is :o) But the question is not where the noise is coming from, but where it is being picked up and injected into your analog audio - and that's the keyboard. :o) It might actually be that you can still use the keyboard - with audio cables that have the shielding disconnected at one end. If that doesn't help, turn the cables around so the shielding disconnection is on the other end. Just make sure it's on the same end of both cables. If it doesn't help, don't worry about the cut shieldings - it won't hurt (and in fact it's often advised to use analog audio cables this way). Maurits.

Worth a look. This Ebtech box solved it for me. My Roland 88 key piano was noisy with my dual 2.0 G5, which exhibited the chirping/noise issue. I had no problems with my dual 800 G4 and was using the exact same setup otherwise. This box eliminated the problem on the piano: http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/Hum I still have a slight bit of chirping with HD access, but have gotten used to it.
