Subject: [LUG] Electrical Interference noise coming from Mac
Message #221879
Ladies and gentlemen, Having a few noise issues with my studio and I definitley am more of the muso type than the techy and I am at the end of my knowledge. I have been getting a lot of iterference noise coming through my speakers. Since I first built the studio it has been there, but I have lived with it, and managed to "tune it out" of my head, but I decided to eliminate it once and for all. I have gone through a process of elimination and I think the interference noise is coming from the Mac. I think I have gone through a pretty thorough process of elimination of what it could be, 30" montor, house cicuitry etc, by basically having everything unplugged except the G5 the apogee and the big knob, and the Mackie 828 speakers, and then when I turn off the Mac .... mmmMMMmmmmm beautful silence. Do I have a faulty Mac, or just unlucky enough to have a noisy Mac, or is there a setting in the mac I can turn off to eliminate the noise ... The only other possiblity I can think of is the speaker cables. The quality could be better, and I don't know if they are balaanced or unbalanced. Thanks in advance. The studio comprises: G5 Dual 2ghz 30" Apple display Apogee Ensemble MOTU Express 128 Mackie HR828 Big Knob US 2400 Yamaha Motif Trigger Finger 2 x Monster Power Conditioners Richard =)

You have a BAD Power Supply Unit in your Mac. Most likely that is it. The PSU. Cheers
