I hope you can help solve a problem. Below is a little outline of
something I'd like to accomplish.
The RIG-
1) Logic host
2) AU-Kontakt2
3) Reason-rewired
4) AU-Battery 3
5) Ableton Live 6 (standalone)
6) Roland Module
Midi controllers
1- Akai 4000s Wind controller with midi out and audio out
2- Axiom 49 -keys and pads
3- generic keyboard with 10 rotaries
7) Yamaha MFC10
Acoustic instruments played through effects
1 Voice
2 Tenor Sax
3 Soprano Sax
4 Flute
How best can I setup Logic Environment to handle all of this. I will
play patches from Reason, Kontakt and EXS with both midi controllers.
Imagine 10 instruments preloaded in reason, 10 in Kontakt, 4 EXS, and
can play the module.
How do I select patches for each device on the fly to play from either
controller ? I have a Yamaha MFC10 pedal board that I can use to do
some switching.
I know I can set reason so that it locks certain devices to a
controller. I know i can set EWI and Axiom on different midi channels.
Logic would then know which instrument I'm playing. BUt how do I tell
logic -play Reason device 2 for EWI and Reason device 4 for Axiom. Ot
play track 1(kontsakt 1) from axiom and track 3( reason device 2) from
EWI.
I woud setup 14 instrument tracks but how would I select through them ?
How would I have EWI and Axiom and generic controller ready to play
and be able to play any patch of my softsynths or module?
How would i make sure logic knows which soft sampler/synth from which
controller.
Would I setup a midi channel switcher ? Would I set up different
layers one for each controller that sends on certain midi channel?
My Ewi would be connected through the AXIOM midi in or the MFC10 midi
in and I would never be playing the EWI and the AXIOM simultaneously.
Would I setup the foot pedal so that I can press one for channel
1(EWI) 2 for Channel 2(AXIOM) ? So that any signal going into logic
would be setup for that instrument ? At that point how would I get
either of them to do patch change for the particular instrument I'm
seeking in Kontakt or Reason given that each will except up to 64
channels(I'd probably only be using the first 16 of either.
Hope this all makes sense. I can kind of see many ways that this can
be accomplished but I dont' really havea grasp on what is best for on
stage workflow. Hope a you guys can help.
lastly, I want to play the acoustic instruments and EWI through
effects. How do I set it up Logic's environment so that there is an
open channel at all times for me to play instruments through. Effects
would be reverb, chorus, delay and maybe some other effects. I'd want to
set those up so I can disable any of them if desired. I wouldn' be
using a lot of effects just a little of all.
Hi,
Am I correct in my assumptions that it is not possible to copy the
settings from one EXS24 instrument to another? I.e. applying one
instruments settings to the samples of a different instrument.
(filter settings, MIDI bindings, envelope etc etc).

There's a more or less convoluted workaround, but it actually works:
- Load the instrument you want to copy the settings to.
- Chose "Delete Settings from Instrument" in the EXS' options
menu. Make
sure to use a copy if you want them to remain in the basic instrument.
- Load the instrument you want to copy the settings from.
- Reload the instrument that you deleted the settings from.
It's not all that bad, just that you have to work on a copy of the
instrument, should you want to preserve the original settings. Another
option (instead of saving a copy first) would be to keep the original patch
loaded on another instance of the EXS. So, once you're done deleting the
settings from the target patch and transfering them from the source patch,
you could save the instruments settings again, using the EXS instance still
holding the original.

Thank you, Sascha! A highly usable workaround, given the
circumstances ;-)
But jeez, why couldnt' they just throw in an "Import Settings From
Instrument" option? That was what I was looking for.

I had a similar setup recently and I ended up writing a Max-Patch for
it. It's not that difficult and you should be able to do it with PD
("PureData") which is free and can do what Max does (more and
less...;)

In my questioning, I've found a couple of resources that have put me a
few steps forward. Glen's comments plus the info on the following
links should assist anyone with getting this started. Below are some
links to resources the environment. Some include detailed
explanations of the environment (substitue rtf.) Others include
downloadable files that do an assortment of processess that relate to
my original question.

I believe sonikmatter is a place to gain a basic understanding.

logicprohelp has a ton of download environments. The link is directly
