I won't pretend to know which sample rate is best for projects intended
for CD (16/44.1) delivery, but in the latest issue of Resolution
magazine
there's an interview with the principals of Prism Audio, (makers of
ultra-
high-end converters), and they say it's better to record at 44.1, and
use
no down sampling, for such projects.
Archiving and/or intended delivery to high-res formats is of course
better
using the relevant higher rate.
HTH, YMMV,

Yes i realize that 44.1 is best for cd. I was talking more in terms of
output to my monitors for more accurate monitoring. Would this make for
more 'accurate' monitoring?
I am asking because i simply do not know. I am still very much in the
learning stage.
