Hi,
I'm having a real hard time getting the IAC bus to work as MIDI conduit
between Logic and
Kontakt standalone. If there's anyone who can help, I'd greatly appreciate
it.
I have Kontakt up and running and being successfully triggered from that
little MidiKeys
utiliy over the IAC bus — no problems at all. As soon as I quit MidiKeys and
launch Logic;
select a midi instrument; set it to transmit midi on the same IAC bus (just
like I did with
MidiKeys) I get blasted with this HUGE feedback loop that can only be killed
with a force
quit of Kontakt...
What is going on?!? I've stared at the problem for hours and I can't figure
it out at all. But
it's the same every time I try to make the connection. Kontakt has a MIDI
tantrum.
Kontakt is set to have the IAC Bus 1 as its "input" Midi channl —
all others are toggled off.
It has no output channels active. As I said before, it likes it when
MidiKeys talks to it...
IAC only has one bus.
Logic is just opening a standard, factory template.
I'm so confused I had to quit and walk away.
Hoping someone can shed some light...

But it's a two-ended bus, not just a source or destination. Logic will
also receive anything sent to it (Logic listens to all ports), so if
the sending instrument is the selected track in the Arrange, you have
a loop.
Block the IAC port outlet at the environment Physical Input (cable to
dead-end monitor or such). This will prevent messages from the IAC bus
reaching the Arrange.
Note that if you're using Logic Express, you're screwed - there's no
way to block one port. In this case, MIDIPipe should be used rather
than IAC.

John, you are my hero.
That was the problem, plain and simple. I had no idea.
Blocking the port, eh? Who knew?
Thanks again.

HI John
Have you tried that with sending a midi clock to the software connected thru
IAC ?
Even cabling a monitor on the inputs is making Logic going mad

I think Logic grabs any incoming clock signal before it reaches the
environment, so if you have Logic set to auto-sync to external clock,
it will keep trying to sync to its own clock through the IAC loop.
The solution might be to turn off the auto-sync, which I think is in
tempo & sync prefs (song prefs?)

Hi John
Thanks for your answer.
Logic is OK now, but external K2 does not follow tempo changes !
Many thanks
Cyril
