After much experimentation and a helluva lot of help from the Apple Logic Pro discussion group (Rohan Stevenson in particular), here's the skinny. It's not OK to use any old QT file, it must be DV. Final Cut Captures are OK but the QT file that Final Cut spits out is not. if you have to bounce from FC then use MPeg streamclip to convert it to DV but DON'T let it repair Timecode Breaks. Finally Contiguous Sync must be on otherwise you're just freewheeling and sync will drift over time. If you get a lot of spluttering and wowing with Contiguous Sync on, then the movie file is not DV. Another thing... get the Vision out through a Canopus box or similar device, it places a lot less strain on the CPU I've wasted hours getting this right... it works.
