Back in the OS9/8/7 days, there were indeed freeware
and shareware apps that did batch converting to 8bit/22.05KHz.
Is there anything in the OSX world?????
I have a few hundred 16bit/44.1KHz files that need converting
to 8bit/22.05KHz. Voice only - quality isn't a big deal (just
ineligibility).

I used Sound Grinder, it's a $ 35,-

Works excellent.
Also, Peak does batch processing but is a little more expensive.
Cheers

Why not just convert them to MP3? They will be smaller *and* sound
better than 8 bit 22.05k.

"Is there anything in the OSX world?????"
Itunes, Barbabatch, Peak, ProTools (just import the files in a
temp sesssion and "export selected as files" to the desired
resolution)

There are many industries that relay on lo-res PCM. I am in the
children's "edu-tainment" industry and we generate 8bit, 8k
mono wavs all the tiime.
Hope this helps.

It's for a client who needs them this way.
They're using a program called Director for which I
know nothing about.
I mentioned the mp3 thing right at the beginning.
You're right: Compared to mp3, 8bit/22.05KHz takes
up more space but at least it sounds worse!
