Hi Dandi and Danny, History. After Apple 'took-over' Emagic and stopped all PC development they offered a cross platform 'key' to all registered LAWP 5 users to entice them to switch to Macs. First upgrade on the Mac was LAMP 6. Upto this point all s/w instruments (ES1, ES2, EVOC, EVP88, EVB3, EVD6, etc) were only available individually. Then Apple anounced Logic Pro 6 which included space designer and ALL s/w instruments that were previously available for sale individually with a list of $1 000 new or upgrade from LAS 5, LAG 5, LAP 5, LAP 6 costing between $300 - $600. At this point all blue XS-keys were 'cross platform compliant' if Logic Pro 6 was first installed on a mac and the permanent codes obtained from 'Emagic' authorised on the blue xs-key on the mac. I did exactly this. Since i had LAWP 5.5.1 I upgraded 2 LP6 ($300) and got all the s/w instruments that now are standard ... of course i had already bought some of them individually so this 'offer' hurt my pockets abit. This should answer your first query and no that commentator was dead wrong because there was both LAMP 6 and LP6. Then support for emagic products switched to Apple and LP7 came out including an upgrade (for $300) from LP6 2 LP7 ... at this point the 'blue xs-keys' were 'dropped' and the new xs-keys were needed for LP7 to work. According to the technical stuff flying about around that time, Apple comfirmed that LP7 REQUIRED the new XS-Key. BUT i cannot confirm as i did not buy the LP6 2 LP7 upgrade. Your best bet would be to buy the 'permanent codes' for LP6 from your friend ... you should actually get the xs-key from her with all s/w authorised already then go to Apple's support pages and make her 'transfer' her ownership of the codes to you. If you do not do this then Apple will still think that she is the registered owner of that key and all associated codes. I can confirm that LP6 audio instruments and efx works on my LAWP 5.5.1 machine EXCEPT for the 'newer' AIs and Efx post LAWP 5..5.1 When you have time and money you can upgrade to LP7 on a Mac. I still use LAWP 5.5.1 because i don't really want to switch to Macs even though i do need features of LP6/LP7. However all my work can be transferred to a studio that does use LP6 or LP7. I'm seriously contemplating moving to Nuendo or Sonar 6 as the s/w has developed to such a level that the results are going to be pretty much the same if i use Sonar 6 or LAWP 5.5.1 on a PC. I still prefer logic though. take care and i hope this helps. Vim V. B. Narayan AFF01/02 Coordinator PDSU DFL-SC USP

Vim, I think that puts it to rest for me. Thanks very much. I too want to maintain the pc installation of Logic, and I will eventually maintain installations on both platforms. I've heard some very good comments about Sonar 6 from a friend that uses it. Also there's an excellent review of Nuendo at http://www.performermag.com/nevermindtheprotools.php I'm guessing you know this though :) Thanks again, Dandi
