Hi guys -
I would like to simulate with Logic a similar behaviour as the one in
Ableton Live where any sample can be triggered via MIDI.
Does anybody know if it is possible to get Logic's play head in the
Arrange jump to any prespecified position, so that it plays an audio
region that has been placed in that position (and automated
accordingly)? I think this could be proven quite useful (especially for
automating surround panning, which is not supported by Ableton Live)
Any ideas?

Have a look at touch tracks. This allows you to assign midi keys to
individual regions, I
don't know if surround can be controlled by hyperdraw (region based
automation) but if it
does this would be the way to go. It doesn't move the spl (song position
line) but i think
you may get the results you want,

I dunno what Ableton Live does, but the EXS24 certainly triggers any
sample you put into it via MIDI...

Apart from TouchTracks, as has already been suggested, you could also
use key commands or MIDI commands for "Goto Marker Number [1 to
20]".
That'll make playback jump to the left position associated with each marker.
If Logic's stopped you could have 40 positions available by using "Goto
Marker Number [1 to 20]" and "Play from [left or right] Locator'.
Cheers, Bill
