Help! I have major connection problems.I have never used Logic(although
I've had it since V4.8) Anyway I want to get into it big time. This is
what I have: The YamahaAW4416 and the Akai MPC 2000XL . What I have to
interface with my eMAC(as well as my G4) is: (for the 4416)the Yamaha
MY8-MLan firewire card(along with the accompanying software "mLAN
Tools"). And on the midi side, I have the Yamaha USB-MIDI interface UX
16(and the accompanying software). The problem is my Macs are not
recognizing any of this stuff. I go through Logic's setup wizard, but
nothing pops up. Basically all I ant to do is trasfer tracks from the
Yamaha to Logic via firewire, rather than burning a cd two tracks at a
time and importing ino Logic. and almost the samething on the midi side.
(just fine tweak in Logic).
Am I asking the impossible? Can the 4416 be used as a digital console
via the firewire interface? Why doesn't it recognize it? When I try to
use the USB-midi stuff, my Macs try to start up the classic mode. I
don't mind buying new gear(translated new interfaces- I do want to keep
the 4416 as well as the MPC). If I have to, I will replace my two dream
machines. So tell me what do I need to do? thanks

I am speaking from actual experience. The Yamaha MY8-MLan card is
junk. Yamaha never got it to work correctly (especially on a Mac) and
offered the original handful of US purchasers a deal on other options.
We opted for the i88x at the time. My suggestion to you, is to get
an outboard Firewire interface for the Mac which has ADAT I/O
capability, and then get an ADAT card for the AW. That worked great for
us when we were using the AW4416.
