I am having the same problem and wondering if anyone knows how to
factory reset the MOTU 896HD. The thing is useless at this time when
playing thru logic.
I t works fine with any other audio like iTunes.
Powermac G5 dual 2.7, 4.5 GB RAM
System 10.4, 10.4.6, 10.4.8
Logic 7.1.1

Disconnect the firewire cable from the 828mkII
Press the Setup knob
Turn the Setup knob all the way to the right
Press the Select knob
Press the Value knob
Power off the interface and plug the firewire cable back in
Power the interface back on

MOTU has to adress this problem . I am having the same problem with the 828
Mk 2 , every two weeks i have to reset to factory defaults , disconnect the
firewire cable and restart the computer . With my old PCi 324 never had
problems . It seems to me it is an issue with MOTU firewire and Logic since
I tunes always works fine .

This has only happened to me once, in two years of using an 896HD, but
when it did I finally cleared it by toggling the 'Optical Input' and
'Optical Output' settings in the MOTU Audio Setup application.
I have no idea why this works, and can't now find the page where I
found it as a suggested solution, but it did work for me.
You can't use the solution for the 828, of course, because the 896HD
doesn't have the same controls.
