Subject: Tempo Snapshot
Message #220683
I'm looking for a way to send tempo snap shot to the transport .I did try to use a sustain pedal on CC 21 than , from the physical input to a transformer object than to the Tempo Fader object .Until now , No problem ! when i push the pedal , the Tempo Fader get the the snap shot and " Magic " the tempo setting in the transport is change to the new tempo ! The Problem is : if i push "play " the tempo come back to the orginal value . If i push the "play button " first and than send the snap shot ( from the sustain pedal ), the tempo in the transport change to the value i want but after couple seconds iget the " error message " about midi and audio sync. I use only Midi files in that project . what i'm trying to do is to load in a Logic song mutiples song made with many midi files than trigg them using the " touch track " object . If all the songs have the same tempo , it work fine . But if i have songs with other tempo , than i need to send snap shot to the tempo to change . The touch track object work only in play mode . i still have ploblem to load multiple midi track on one note in the " touch track " object

Hey Bruno, I'm not 100% sure I understand what you're trying to do, but in case I got it right... - Couldn't you include a "tempo snap shot" in each MIDI file? - Could you leave Logic's tempo alone and edit each MIDI file so that it *sounds* as though it's playing at a different tempo, either by stretching it or by multiplying all event positions and note lengths in the Transform window? Yours wonderingly, Bill

Hi Bill , Thank for answering . i did not try to include a" tempo snapshot " in each midi file ( i did not know that was possible but i'll check tonight ) For your second solution , i did think about it before and there is no raison for it to not work ) but i was looking for a more logical and easy way . My point is to be able to use Logic as a real sequencer by putting multiples songs in one Logic song than trigg the appropriate sequence for the right song . I have a Roland XP-80 who has a feature named " RPS " it work very good but you can only load one song at time. In logic 7 , if we could load multiples song in one Logic song ....than we will not have to wait any more for the machine to load . I did read in the user manual about Folders .....they says : using folder is like putting songs in a song . They even says :"it possible to organise a full concert in the Arrange window using folder" . That is why i was looking for a way to snapshot the tempo . Thank again Bruno

As I said, there are a few ways to do it. Here's a fairly "logical and easy" method, but you'd better check it thoroughly cos I'm just making this up on the spot, so there may be problems I haven't thought of... - Program each MIDI file in its own Logic song file with its own tempo - Select all regions and "Lock SMPTE Position" - Change the tempo to the tempo of the "master" file, the one that's going to contain all the songs - "Unlock SMPTE Position" > My point is to be able to use Logic as a real sequencer by > putting multiples songs in one Logic song than trigg the > appropriate sequence for the right song . There've been quite a few discussions about using Logic like this, so it's probably worth searching the archives. Cheers, Bill

hi Bill , thank 's , i'll try that. For that Matter , i can of course just record in audio than import the audio files in a sampler than trigg the right seq. which will play always at the right tempo . This method work very well , but i'm concern about the the amount of power suck from the computer . we are talking to import a full concert in a sampler with all parts from all instruments for all songs using multiples instances of the sampler ..... so if one guy is sick i can trigg his parts from the sampler. i have to check all possible way to do it. thank's again Bruno Bill Canty <Bill@Canty.com> wrote:
