Peter, My experience might save you a headache... When Apple sent our MacBook Pros, they'd already thrown the 7200 into mine because they know I'm a Logic guy. My Apple rep said that anything less and I "wouldn't be happy". My orchestrator settled for the 5400, thinking she wouldn't need that much juice for Sibelius and Finale. However, she's finding that she fires up Logic more than she realized and we've had nothing but problems (particularly with trying to stream samples), and so now it's at the Apple Store getting beefed up to 7200. Thanks for the hint Deane! Is the 7200 rpm hard drive (annoyingly) louder than the 5400? I'm still wondering if it would be sufficient to use an external 7200 for streaming audio and the standard internal 5400 drive for only running logic. But the internal 7200 ist 90€ cheaper, too... Adding to the confusion, I found this post at the Ableton Live Forum: "...The 160 uses Perpendicular storage which stacks the bits. Perpendicular is apparently more reliable then the traditional approach. But for sure it is faster because the data is stored more densely. That means each rotation reads more bits. Does that mean the 5400 is faster then the 7200? I don't know. But with 60% more space, better reliability and an assumption that slower RPM means less battery usage, I went with the 160." hm... ok, enough of this see-saw, I'm afraid I'm getting on your nerves... ;-) If the internal 7200 is not too loud, I'll choose that. Peter
