Hi all,
I have a couple of AU's of which I'm pretty sure they cause instability in
Logic (on my system).
I decided to no longer use them, I.E. deleted them from my HD, and this made
my system
totally crash-free for weeks and weeks, a pretty rare feat in my case... :-)
Anyway, I sometimes need to open up older songs and get the expected
messages of missing
AU's. So I go through the process of reinstalling them, going online for new
auth.codes,
yadayadayada. Very annoying.
Now for ze question; would it suffice to simply deselect them in the AU
manager instead of
going thru the above? Would make sense, but I'm not sure...
Thanx!

You could try a 3rd party app called.....AU Manager
Here: http://www.grantedsw.com/aum/
It allows you to enable/disable AU plugs, and even make sets of
selections for the very purposes you mention. It simply moves all
disabled plugs to a folder called <Components (Disabled) > and moves
them back when you need them.
Great app - I use it often.

Makes sense.
Or you simply make a folder "Components (disabled)" beneath the
"Components" folder and move the plugs over there. There is a
small
program available which does exactly that but I find it more
complicated than moving the plugins manually.
The folder-method is only convenient if you have all of your plugs on
the same level. I myself moved all of them to the system level
because I got tired searching plugins in two different locations.

Peter, Colin,
thanx for this. Seems like a very cool little app. But is it just me, or
does this do the same
as the AU manager? Is there any other benefit besides the possibility to
make up AU sets?

I don't think there's much difference. Perhaps Logic's manager is
slower as it may want to re-scan (which the other app doesn't - it
just moves things)
I like the sets though. I keep a cut-down "normal" working set
with
only plugs that work well and don't cause problems. Then I have
expanded sets with other odds and ends for compatibility with old
songs, extra "dangerous" plugs etc etc.
It's up to you.....

Ah yes, that is an excellent way of working. Gonna try it, thanx.

Hi,
Is the AU Manager a tool in Logic Pro? I looked for it and couldn't find
any documentation. Can someone tell me where it or it's documentation is?
Thanks,

The "Logic AU Manager":
Logic Pro >> Preferences >> Start Logic AU Manager
It tests and enables/disables installed Audio Units. You see it
working at startup whenever you added or removed plugins. And you can
call it from the menu. You can enable and disable AU's there.
The third party program "AU Manager":
That is an application fom "Granted Software" which allows to
build
sets of AU's and moves the selected plugins forth and back between
the folder "Components" and a folder "Components
(disabled)".
A Logic restart is required with both methods.

It's under the preferences menu; 'start AU manager"
