very good point. Perhaps e-magic could make a self reading 'dongleized'
manual that only registered users could read? I'm sure it wouldnt be that
much of a task.

Now *that's* a very good idea !
(well done Stephen ;)
As a matter of fact Acrobat allows for encrypting the text upon creation
that can be undone during reading.
If this 'decrypter' would check on the dongle we would satisfy Emagics
anti-pirate policy while also providing an electronic version of the
manual (which would come handy...)
IMO something to seriously consider, best,
Michael

Reality is: *any* (software protection can be cracked.
I guess that most of us heard or saw cracked Logic Audios
around on the net. This means that we can expect to see
cracked versions of the pdf manuals too...
I'm sure Emagic would be very happy not to spend time
and resources implementing annoying copy protections
if they were sure they would get minimal damage doing this.
But reality is quite different.
So Emagic is taking the route of implementing aggressive
soft protection on Logic and not releasing the manuals...
/* ironic mode on
If they work the whole copy protection issue a little bit harder,
it might happen they will not even deliver new software for fear
of being pirated! :) :) :) :)
(and we are really on the edge with all those reports of dongle being
not recognized (here too!))

Seriously,
Emagic should better spend his time developing music software
than copy protection code and shipping printed manuals.
Because, when you work hours and hours recoding/mixing music all
you really want is *solid*, *unobstrusive*, *exotic* software for
creative uses! :) :) :) :)
I think that if you don;t take the proper time to read the printed manuals
then you maybe aren;t too motivated at using Logic in your environment.
Don;t blame the newspaper if you don;t read it! ;-)

I know everyone's tired of this topic, but I feel I must speak my mind
here..
I bought LAGW 4.0, and was surprised to find a 3.6 manual included
therein. I believe that Emagic is ethically obligated to provide me with a
manual consistent with the version I purchased, at no extra expense. PDF or
hardcopy or whatever, I am flexible on that point. But I paid for this
version, and the manual is part of that.
I'd be happy to return the older version (not that that helps Emagic
much), but I insist on an up-to-date manual, since that's what I bought.
I'm not a basher...I have a great deal of respect for Emagic. But that's
the right thing for them to do.

You took the words right out of my mouth Skip. It's one thing to get a
3.6-marked package (cd/manual) from a store...and then have the onus on you
to acquire upgrades. But, like you, I bought a box that was clearly labeled
4.0. That implies that everything in that box is gonna be 4.0. I expect a
4.0 manual as well, at no extra charge to me (although I would begrudgingly
hand over shipping costs). I'm no lawyer, but I would bet that Emagic might
be required to provide a 4.0 manual. To me, it's no different than buying a
4.0 box with a 3.6 cd inside--misrepresentation of the product!
I sure hope that you and I aren't the only ones that feel this way. I would
hope that the point you made is obvious to most reasonable people.
Also, I have to reiterate what you said about liking Emagic. They make some
pretty great sequencers, and just like with software/hardware troubles,
people shouldn't assume that just because this list is full of a lot of
griping, that doesn't mean that we as customers aren't generally satisfied.
But be that as it may, we are still entitled to receive what we have already
PAID FOR.

Just wanted to point out, that after all this time, there still has been
only ONE barely working crack of Logic Audio v3.5. And the only group
who MIGHT be able to crack 4.0 has already announced that they are not
going to do it. Logic's protection rocks!
