Subject: Re: [LUG] 2 instruments on 1 staff?

Message posted by Ben Lammerts <ben3@www2.hku.nl>: I'm writing for a string quartet using Logic for composing and scoring. In case of the violin, I have a track with the legato samples on EXS instrument 1, and another track with the pizzicato samples on EXS instrument 2. Of course only ONE player has to play these, so I want to get these different tracks displayed in my score on ONE staff. How can I do this? If you just want to see the parts on one staff just merge the tracks in the arrange window, or copy and paste one to the other in the score window. Then just write in pizz or arco.at the appropriate measures. If you want to hear the changes (and still keep the notes on one staff)then you need to set up the samples in EXs24 for key switching.(which I believe is possible)Other orchestral Libraries (like Garriton GPO , East West -to name a few) have already set these up for you.Keyswitching by the way is a form of patch switching based on triggering the patch change by sending pitch names that are beyond the range of the instrument . ie. C0 might set off a pizz samples while C0 might trigger a tremalo, etc. Or you could get a notation program like Finale and transfer the String Quartet over using SMF. With these programs the key switching is accomplished by actually having the word pizz (arco, etc.)in the score send out the note switching names. Quite ingenious . Wish i could do it in Logic. Hope this helps-Joel Hope this helps-Joel
