I'm attempting to use 'Unitor-8 Control' on sys9.1, as OSX version crashes.
Can't seem to get the amt-8 to recognize beat clock.
Does it actually work? Please advise, thanks.

Hello Brian,
have yo checked if system realtime messages are enabled in the Unitor
control panel on the ports? On my PC I use the SoundDiver for this but
there is/was available a special Unitor version from Emagic for setting
up the hardware.

Hello Zsolt,
Thanks for your reply. I have (separately, only one port at a
time) checked and unchecked all of the filters on two separate
ports that I have connected - port 1 on the first amt8 (to see
if port 1 was the only port that works), and at a different
time port 8 on the second amt8 (as a random attempt).
The 'Unitor 8 Control' software (soundiver derivative) sees the
interfaces ok. I open the MIDI monitor window in the Unitor 8
Control software (v3.04 on OS9.2) and it displays incoming notes,
patch changes and sys-ex ok from the keyboard (for which the
software checkbox filters toggle accordingly - i.e. will filter
when enabled), but still no active sensing messages (when the
Triton keyboard generates in external sync mode) or real time
(beat clock) messages (Triton generating in internal sync mode)
are seen - nada.
Other MIDI interfaces see these active sensing and beat clock
messages just fine. I guess I'm just going to have to re-wire my
MIDI setup to accomodate this problem - ugh.
I have tossed away the system preferences and I have not found
a 'reset' function for the amt8's - other than power on/off - to
try to possibly 'wake them up'. Any additional suggestions are
welcome.
thanks -Brian

If that's the case Brian I think maybe the AMT went bad ...
Mine does it OK on a PC, both active sensing and clock messages
are received (and indicated via the LEDs also) properly.
Could you try it on another system ?

Hello Zsolt,
I had some success finally, but I am not sure why. I sent the
amt8 beat clock, from a K2500 and all of a sudden the interface
responded - not using the Unitor Control application (to monito
input) but rather within the OSX MIDI Monitor. I then sent the
Triton clock again to the interface - and it (finally) responded
- somewhat. The interface will see beat clock from another Mac
sequencer, or from a synth sequencer (either the K2500 or the
Triton sequencers) but not beat clock which is (constantly)
generated from either a Korg N5 or the Korg Triton keyboard(s).
Beat clock is beat clock (?) but maybe the amt8 needed (to see)
the Start and Stop messages(?)
Yet a MOTU interface or MIDIMan interface will see and sync to
either - the keyboard beat clock (not only from the Keyboard
sequencer but from its arpeggiator - which is my original
intention as much of my gear responds to beat clock) or the
sequencer beat clock.
I ran the Unitor Control application's internal MIDI test
routine and the interface passed ok. Then all of a sudden - the
Unitor control software will no longer recognised the interface -
after it started recognizing beat clock. But CoreMIDI always does
recognise it.
Sigh...
All I have to say at this point (for the world at large) is: I
have owned two Opcode Studio 4's, one Opcode Studio 5, one
MIDIMAN 8x8 and 2 Emagic AMT8's - all are no longer manufactured
and only the MIDIMAN is supported. The amt8's replaced the Opcode
boxes.
I also have currently have two MOTU Express 4x6's (one 110V
powered, one USB powered - but no model differentiation) which
should -never- be used side by side or with a hub (!?!) (i.e.
CoreMIDI constantly swaps them or 'ghosts' them if they are both
attached to one computer).
The MIDIMan 8x8 constantly needs a reset. (procedure: unplug
-all- 16 MIDI cables, usb cable, power cable, turn off power, wait
10 seconds, reverse procedure...)
Go to the Steinberg site and read the thread(s) on the MIDI-Ex
problems...uh no longer manufactured?
The only decent interface of the bunch that I've had great luck
with (besides the original little serial 1x1, 2x2, or 1x4
MiniMacMIDIMans) is the Studio5.
Grin and bear it. Thanks again -Brian
