I'm writing for a string quartet using Logic for composing and scoring. In
case of the violin, I have a track with the legato samples on EXS instrument
1, and another track with the pizzicato samples on EXS instrument 2. Of
course only ONE player has to play these, so I want to get these different
tracks displayed in my score on ONE staff.
How can I do this?
I'm using Logic Pro 7.4 on a MacBook 2.0Ghz.
Thanks!

Ben,
You could use a score style that ignores the MIDI channel of each note,
put the different articulations on different MIDI channels, then make
your track instrument a channel splitter that sends the various
articulations off to their appropriate EXS24 instruments.

With the multiple tracks and/or keyswitching necessary to take
advantage of all these libraries' articulations, it's usually best to
copy all the regions from a particular orchestral part's tracks onto
a single, continuous muted track to be used for score purposes only.
You can then delete any of the unwanted keyswitch or other unwanted
MIDI notes, as well as doing the radical quantization often required
to get the parts to look right, without altering your original performances.

My preference for this is to make 1 EXS instrument that combines arco
and pizzicato, and use the modwheel to switch between pizz and arco (You
can use keyswitches, but then you have to faf around to hide them in the
score)
E.G. Opene the pizzicato instrument editor, copy all zones and groups,
paste into the arco instrument and save with a new name, e.g.
vlns_arco_pizz_mod.exs.
Alternatively you can use MIDI channel of note event to select between
pizz and arco groups.

Thanks very much to you all for your reactions!
I made something in the Environment with 1 MIDI instrument (with the Cello
part) going to a Cable Switch going to Instrument 1 (arco) and Inst 2
(pizz). I made the Cable Switch to react on CC nr. 1, and then made an
automation track for this controller on the MIDI inst. This works, but it's
still quite a bit of work. Of course I now have a template I can use in
other songs.
Sean, I used to do it the way you describe it, but this method gives me not
enough flexibility to switch from score back to composing, and vice versa.
Pete, I guess your way of making 1 instrument with all the articulations
requires some work, but after that it's the easiest to handle. I think I'm
gonna use this.
Thanks again!
Ben
