Subject: Logic export to FCP
Message #219489
SYNC TROUBLE I'm having a sync problem. I Began by exporting a logic 7 file to fcp. Exported logic as AIFF at 44.1 kHz. Brought into FCP, then added to a fcp sequence with a setting of 44.1 rate. The audio gradually comes out of sync, by as much as 21 frames by the mid point (program is 9 minutes.) Same thing happens if the FCP sequence audio rate is 48. If the logic file is reset at 48 for export, when it shows up in final cut, it runs like alvin and the chipmunks. Any ideas on how to fix this???

I had a project where the sound from a camera shoot needed some editing so I stripped it from the video in FCP and brought it in Logic to do some processing with Logic 6.4 plugins, aiming to bounce it from Logic and bring it back to FCP. The file I brought back into FCP was significantly shorter than the one I took from it. I am not sure what the problem is exactly but I suspect it might have sth to do with the fact that Logic interprets a tempo for every project you work on. If you see the tempo assumed it is probably a weird one (at least i remember it like that in my case). This is a difference i think between it and exporting from a classic audio editor, where a tempo is not assumed. Of course you cannot use the Logic plugs there, but maybe you don't need them. Have you tried it? Does anybody know the source of this problem and even better a solution? iraklis

I am not sure if I understood your work flow very well; however, my work flow with FCP is this. all the length editing must be done in FCP. If you change the length of file in LP, sure, length of sound file and video dose not match at all. Then, OMF (or XML? I never use this option before) >LP (audio sweeting)>AIFF (bounce) >FCP (Jus simply place AIFF on your FCP timeline) Another problem can be Time code. Most of video is 29.97. Also it is possible that you are not digitizing video properly. Time code will not match and you will experience your audio sliding off the synch. Plz make sure all the spec are right at stage of digitizing (or capturing) your video. Also ....... sample rate.... you know how sample rate effects the length of audio file, yet the problem can be very audible..... I don't think this is a problem in your case. best regards

Now I understand what possibly wrong in your work flow. On final cut pro, you must set your sample rate for 48K as u can see them on "easy settng " under Audio Video setting. Most common DV project is 48K. It is possible that you (or someone) did not capture video right since most of video production TC is 29.97 or 24. some of them are drop frame and so on. How did you import ur audio into LP? It is so strenge to see 44.1K n video project to begin with. Please double check with your sauce files. If thngs are not right, they must captured file in totally odd way. best regards
