Subject: [LUG] How to easily split main output 1-2, with a separate EQ
Message #219447
Hi, Question (short version): Is there a simple way to set up a software split of the Output 1-2 so that I can EQ it differently for a separate pair of monitor speakers? Long Version: I'm reorganizing the physical setup of monitor speakers, and want to sub the main outs with an EQ that cuts out a 5K peak in a small (Koss) near-field speaker, while keeping the original Output 1-2 untouched. I first assumed this would be easy in Logic, but haven't been able to figure out how. Stereo Output object only goes to 1-2 and has no send. Aux has inputs, but not from Logic's own outputs as far as I can see. Bus has no inputs from Logic's outputs either. I'm probably missing something simple, but so far it appears that the only way to do this would be to start using the sends on all the individual audio tracks themselves, sending them to a bus and then to output 3-4. That would be WAY too time-consuming for the 20 songs I'm working on. Plus it probably wouldn't be identical to the current output 1-2, so it would defeat the purpose, which is to have different relatively flat monitor speakers to A/B the mix and edits. I hope there's a simple solution to this - other than splitting the signal physically outside and piping it back into the MOTU 828 inputs, EQ'ing in Logic, and then back out again. (Which I can do if all else fails). steven rowat Logic 7.2.1 MOTU 828mk2

Not from an output, that is a final stage. It is always a good idea to route everything to a "master bus" before it goes to the outputs. Simply create a bus, route everything which runs currently to out 1-2 to that bus instead and from there to out 1-2. Now create an Aux object and assign its input to the "master bus". Set the Aux output to whatever you want. ___ Peter Ostry

Exactly and I suppose it should be pointed out for anyone who might not be clear on it that you can make as many different auxes pointing to as many outputs but all feeding from the same bus as you want.

Understood. In future I will do this. But as it stands this means that in each of the twenty songs I'll have to make a master bus and an Aux, and in *each track* in each song, I'll have to change the output. Hmm. I may still go for the external foldback method, which I think only requires an Aux and no track changes in each song. I'm new to Channel strip presets - can I use these in either case? Can I save Bus and Aux channel strip presets that have the correct EQ (once I've worked it out in one song), and then just load this in each new song? steven rowat

This is dead simple just select the audio objects for all of the tracks and busses that you need to direct to the master bus the while holding down option change the output on any one of them and the outputs of all the others will change to the selected destination as well. > I may still go for the external foldback method, which I think only > requires an Aux and no track changes in each song. > > I'm new to Channel strip presets - can I use these in either case? > Can I save Bus and Aux channel strip presets that have the correct > EQ (once I've worked it out in one song), and then just load this > in each new song? Yes. Even easier just make a song template with the configuration you want and save it as autoload or one of the templates in the autoload folder.
