i lost my dongle a few days ago, what do i do? is there anywhere i can
contact to get a new one? or am i screwed..

Chris, if only it were true that Apple was the best place to start...
after years of reading about others who lost their dongles (what a
phrase), I at last lost mine six or seven months ago... i called
Apple three times* and was finally put in touch with their Pro Apps
people... what a treat! they took my order for a new dongle without
complaint... but oh, by the way, the dongle costs $999... no, no, I
said, I just want a replacement dongle... two different Pro people
tried to tell me the only way to get a dongle was through full
versions... finally the 3rd person knew what I was talking about and
was prepared to sell me a replacement for $99, provided I had proof
of ownership... the trouble was: they would only accept proof of
ownership from the ORIGINAL purchase of Logic... I have proof of
ownership from my last two or three upgrades, but not the original (I
don't even remember my original version at this point... but it was
in the mid-1990s from emagic)... no matter what else I said, she
stood firm on the original proof of purchase so I was out of luck.
with all the unbillable time I was spending trying to get the $100
dongle, I gave up... worked exclusively in Reason/Live/PT for a while
then recently purchased another full install...

*why three times? transfer/hold, transfer/hold, transfer/
disconnect... i don't know how their system works, but if you're on
hold long enough, sometimes you just get sent back to the user-
friendly dialtone.
