Subject: [LUG] copying track from song to song
Message #219338
I have a song with a track i want to use in a new song I have the original track in the arrange window open, with lots of automation data and a specific instrument. I want to copy this to a new song that i simultaneously have opened arrange window. I thought i should be able to choose the original track by clicking on it in the arrange window, select copy and just paste it to the new arrange window, but it doesn't seem to be that simple. what am i missing? In the end i want to have the track with all its automation data, the instrument, its plug ins all from the original track copied to the arrange window of my new song. Unfortunately, Logic doesn't do this in one shot. Because there are several "factors" involved, this has to be done in steps. To copy the instrument plus plugins etc, go to the Environment window and select the Audio Instrument object. Click-hold on <Inserts> and choose <Save channel strip setting as...> This creates a setting which you can then load into any new song. Next, load this setting into a blank strip in your new song. Now make a track with this instrument. Copy all the regions from the arrange window of the old song into the new song. Then, copy and paste the automation data. Yes.....it's a pain in the butt. Being able to save complete channel strips is relatively new, so it used to be even worse...... Maybe in Logic Super Pro v9...... Regards - Colin

I would suggest turning off the audio driver while you copy over the regions of the arrange page. Logic will switch _a lot_ smoother (read: without crashes) if the audio driver is turned off. And switching is also a lot faster. Cheers Hans
