Hi
I'm running 5.5.1 on PC , win 2k, and the program freezes on upstart with
the message:
"Initializing external sample editor communication" and I
understand it´s
due to plugin registration of the file log_ds.ax .
From other threads I understand that I must register the file, but the
problem is that there is no such file on my PC. Anybody know if this is in
logic or in directX. I reinstalled both and there is still know sign of it.
Is it possible to download that file? anybody have one?

As I recall, that's the Logic audio renderer and it should be located
in your Windows/System32 directory. It's the file that enables Logic
to use DirectX plugins.
Are you sure it isn't there?
Next step would be to reinsall the latest version of DirectX then
install Logic again.
HW
Thanks, no - the file was totally gone from the computer, so I got a copy
from a friend, but it dos'nt work, the plugenabler2a dosn't find any plugin,
in the vstplugins dir ( though there are lots in it). Dosn't help to
reinstall direct x or logic - annoying!

You have a misunderstanding.
The PluginEnabler does not validate VST plugins, it only
validates DirectX plugins installed in the system.
The Logic program validates VST plugins when it boots.
The VST plugin directory has to be in the Emagic/Logic 5 root directory
and has to be named VstPlugIns
Upper and lower case have to used as above.
HW
Ok, thanks, but what do I do next?
The VstPlugIns dir is in place in the Logic5 dir, but logic still dosn't
start but freezes on ! "Initializing external sample editor
communication" .
So what is logic doing there - somthing to do with log_ds.ax? And where does
that file come from? It dosn't appear when I reinstall logic ( update 5.5.1.
or 5.3) but it didn't appear. Tried a file from a friend, but it doesn't
work.

Greetings,
I'm running Logic 5 on my PC. I've been using it for years with no
issues, but now I'm suddenly getting that "Initializing External
Sample Editor Communication" text during start-up. The software just
freezes and won't load.
I've found the Log_ds2.ax file in the Windows>System 32 folder but
what am I supposed to do with it?
I've also tried wiping out the version of Logic I had and installing
new versions (5.0.1 as well as 5.5) but both new versions stall in the
same way.
Any help would be deeply appreciated.
Thanks,
Girish
